Now i need to chose the amp, can anyone tell me if a single Alpine MRD M605 will be enough to power the sub, or would i need something more powerful like a JL 500/1 ?
Im hoping the MRD m605 will be enough as it is in my price range. so if the sub is rated at 450 watts rms, how much power does my sub need to be able to feed it properly ?

Look, to be realistic, most subs will go very loudly with very little power (say, 100wrms). The extra power helps, and will probably increase control leading to a better sounding sub overall.
What configuration of that sub are you getting, are they single voice coil or double, what Ohm load will you be presenting to the amplifier? Can it handle this? you have to consider these facts.
when your quoting equipment, list the specs too. Saves people from looking up all the info on their own.
for example, that alpine amp delivers 600 watts at 2 ohms, but i'm not sure if its 1ohm stable, which means you may not want to use a 2+2 Dual voice coil sub, or a 4 ohm single voice coil sub. Users report it actually makes a fair bit more than its stated power. (up to 670wrms)
But being a mono-bloc, chances are it is one ohm stable, and probably puts out more power at one ohm. I'd double check this, though.
Bascially your m605 amp will drive that sub pretty well, i'd say, and has a fair swag of features too. The 500/1 will DEFINENTLY do it well. (500/1 is officially rated to be stable only down to 1.5 ohms)
so, look for a configuration you can wire up in 2ohm, and your laughing.
or, if you find out that amps stable down to 1 ohm, your laughing harder.
Now, that said, people here may have alternatives to suggest.
how much are you looking at spending on a monobloc?

A friend of mine recently bought a MRDM605 and it came with a birth certificate, i believe it made around 640w rms @ 2 ohm.
good sized amp to, they look pretty classy also IMO.
A Dual 4 ohm g5 would be the shot, i have heard one with around 600w rms, sounded the goods

Im looking to spend around 400 - 450 on an amp, I have a friend who is willing to sell me his alpine mrdm605 for 420 which is fair considerin its new, so if that will do the job then id rather pick it up and run it.
Im relatively new to the car scene, but really want to have a stab at doing this install properly myself.
I can do just about everything else on my car but this will be a first.
Oh and the sub is a G5 12 - 4, im pretty sure it will be the dual 4 ohm
