HEy, i just got my new sound car, its a 91 hatch lancer, and i dont want to put pods in thej doors or cut them out so i was going to replace the 4" speakers under the dash, so it looks stock and clean,

So i was thinking about the Kevlar Jaycar 4" speakers, they are priced at $99.

Do you think these will go well enough, the stock ones arent too bad, so a bit better than them, i think should do.

Any other suggestions for good 4" speakers available, cheers.

Good and 4" speaker should generally not be used in the same sentence. ;) :P
I'd look to go 6" or bigger wherever possible.

You will not get any midbass out of a 4" speaker. Unless you highpass this around 200 hz you will get distortion too.

yeh, go the kevlar jaycar. its a great speaker. as long as the front of the speaker to the rear is pretty much sealed it will sound way better. sound deadening might also help.

also reckon u should amp em up, ive got 50wrms going through the old series and it made a noticeable difference compared to the pioneer HU's sound.

what about (sorry for semi-steeling a thread) a suggestion for a 4" speaker to fit in a three way front stage setup. I'm in the same situation, gf has a suzuki swift, bugger all speaker room, 4" in dash plust a new pod with 6.5 in door and a tweet on dash. +sub in the boot. In that senario what would be suggested for a 4" (i know that aren't good) but when their specific function is to play high freq, and i'll have 6.5 for all mid and prob 10" in boot for low, and tweet for real high, should work out alright i thought...?
Any suggstion on quality 4"

a friend of mine has Kicker ES 4.2 Components, i believe they were around $140, not bad for the price, there in a 1994 lancer under the dash, with the tweeters up on the dash.

she use to have cheap jaycar coaxials, steer well clear of them.

i had a 94 mitsi lancer coupe

had 4inch in the dash which fired downward

dont even bother replacing those they sound terrible

if the door is similar to my old car then it will be a totally flat door

this will mean you can use the pre-made fibreglass pods that hold 6.5inch splits. these screw onto the flat door and look amazing :)

this is the best way to get sound in your car.

Thanks pal, dissapointing no company has invested some time into 4" speakers, i would have thought a 6.5" 4" 1.25" and 10" woofer would have created a good stage... anywho...

If money is no object, then Boston Acoustics used to make a 4 inch pro-series component speaker. Exceptional clarity but will definitely need an amp and will cost a decent amount of cash.

Alternatively, get yourself a set of 4 inch Boston coaxials.

Will you be powering them with an amp?

4" AVI or scanspeak is very good and wellknown SQ speakers around the world. $$$ too much for average people. if it is going to be used for 3 ways system I would recommend something with low FS. the jcar are ok for the price

there are PLENTY of companies that make decent 4" speakers. Mtx, many companies that make 3way sets have a 4inch driver in them, which you could probably source seperately. Go look around.

Buy the components separately. I know Lis wouldnt wanna spend a lotta money on car audio but there is potential there...It would go off in a little swift too.

Heh, swift it is.
Buying seperately i wish, more like getting all my old gear..
at the moment, poor girl is listening to 6x9's running of the HU mounted in the boot! I just cant let that remain...
