If you're that worried about not having all ur components TA, you could use the sub out to run ur midbass, and then further low pass this to run ur subs.
Then your subs will be TA with ur midbasses...

Mosoto, have you considered using the kicks instead for your tweets?

TA is definetly not needed for a good soundstage. Nothing beats proper installation. Icing on the cake sums it up nicely

I'm not worried at all. I only delay the right channels by milliseconds to bring them into phase at my head with the left side. thats it. no extra fancy tricks.
I have the tweets up high where they should be, aimed at my head as you would expect. Lower down in the kicks, albeit a proven but not ideal location, is where they will be obscured by feet & legs. etc etc. and also impossible to direct. either location is a compromise because they should be grouped with the other drivers and aimed at the listener as would be the case in home HiFi.. That is the ideal instal. so do me a favour. Next time you sit and listen to your Hi Fi turn your speakers upside down and put one of them 1½ times the distance away from your listening position and let me know if your satisfied with that.

btw we are a little off topic are we not

Um - about the only area which I am sure most people would advocate in one way or another is the TA of a sub with the front sound stage. This is vitally important, even if it is only achieved through the equipment on the amp or through reversing the phase. I certainly wouldn't advise making your subs in the boot in phase with your midbass in the doors.

I agree that all in all it should be used to make a good setup better
not make a bad setup improved.
and it is better utilised on the sub (when i get one)

On topic : I'll be finding a local Vifa supplier here in perth and grab a pair of XT25's to demo. At that price theres nothin to lose. :D

dont u find ur sound stage is too low? ei. hits ur chest, with tweets down in the kicks.
i'm yet to hear a nice head level soundstage with them in the kicks (no ambience tweeters of course)

Yeah I see a lot of people using that installation method and still can't see the logic in it, from an audiophile point of view it doesn't make any sense, but whatever floats ya boat :D

mine are in the kicks and my stage hight is exelent.

the main reason for putting them in the kicks is to get the pathlenths as long as possible.
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

Minimising path length difference is the key. You cant sit in the centre of your car. Measure the path length difference between your dash mounting position and your kicks. The kicks will always be better in this regard.
Path length difference is another reason why hlcds image so well too.

There are also the obvious benefits of reduced separation in the kicks. Many people beleive that the sound will be blocked by the passengers legs but it's not a big issue if you plan it well. Most of the midbass will pass around the legs and the tweets are easy to mount so they are not in the way.

Your ears are more sensitive to the horizontal plane when it comes to localising sounds. I've heard many cars with full setups in the doors and kicks *cough* all CAASQ boys */cough* and stage height is at head height. With great imaging.

Home audio is easy. Overcoming these problems in the car is where the challenge lies.

Most people I know who have gone to kick/door setups wont go back to dash mounted.
Without ambients you do get the rainbow effect, that is the stage height can be great at the centre stage but fall away at the edges.

I'm running ambients at the moment. But they are not essential to getting great stage height, width and depth with drivers mounted low.

But each to their own I was thinking about trying out dash mounted setups when I go 3 way. Not a full install, just to see how they sound up there with midrange and tweet on the dash.

So would mounting the tweets in the doors just above or to the front of the mids be better or worse than mounting in the kicks? angled / focused of course

Might I point out that the Autobarn Beemer which is currently owning Pro Show in NSW has the tweeters and some 2-inch? speakers mounted in the A-pillars.

I'm not aware of any kick-mounted tweeter....
...then again, it is tuned to sound best from one seat :D
