well, following suit with all the other MAX topics floating around atm, i may as well see what is preferred by people, and for what reasons.

atm im running my 12" in a 2.2cuft box tuned to 28hz, giving it around 350W RMS and quite honestly, im disappointed with it. its way too boomy, although it can still reproduce punchy bass alright, i would expect it to be a lot better.

atm im thinking of testing out a 1.5cuft sealed box to see how that goes.

how does it go in really small sealed boxes? what would be recommended for the most accurate sound reproduction (mostly r&b, live rock, and some trance), and lastly.. ive heard some people mention it can handle its massive excursion a lot better when you start giving it over 700-800W RMS. true?

what box is your ID MAX in, and how does it sound?

ta

Had it in 2.5 tuned to 35 with 1000rms and sounded as good as it was in 1cf sealed only louder.

id stick it in the 1.3cf sealed box dude!!

i have mine in that, off 1200wrms and it hammers..
it sounds awesome for SQ when tuned lower (~70Hz) but i have fiddled with it and upped the crossover setting to ~100Hz for Dance and it boogies!!!! you gotta hear it now john. ;)

1.3 sealed all the way!!!

yeah, very happy with 1.3cuft sealed.

mind you, i've EQ'd it a fair bit, but the frequency response of any system is partly dependent on the car's acoustics. regardless, i have natural roll-off from ~50Hz downwards when checked on an RTA. as such, i have boosted the really low subbass relative to the higher subbass for a flatter response in keeping with SQ.

but certainly extremely accurate subbass that goes very low and sounds great, let alone loud when you want it (if you have the power).

something tells me that ill be building a 1.3cuft box :)

ive got 2 1kW amps here, 1 has a blown cap that i need replaced as soon as i get around to ordering it off farnell.. then i hope there is no other damage :\
and to add to that, the other day i discovered that the one that was strapped to it now doesnt output any sound so im going to have to get that looked at while im at it :(

rest asure it will be sufficiently powered tho :D

Just one of those amps is sufficient power for the IDMAX. They are rated at 1K wrms, if I ain't mistaken, however shiny's only feeding 600 into his and it sound excellent. Damo is hitting 1200 into his and it's bloody loud and clear! hahaha

yeah, if i can get them working again, ill use one to power the ID and sell the other.

and an update on the big ported box im using atm, i hit it with some non-burnt recordings and it sounded awesome, a hell of a lot better than mp3 cd's.
ill still be going the sealed box though :)

Yeah, the original recordings are always gonna sound better, but having said that, you can also tell what original recordings have been recorded well or not with a good setup.

I'm not too sure if that made sense... I know what I was trying to say though :P hahaha

not really sure what i'm feeding it. the amp is rated at 1100WRMS at 2ohm, but the gain is trimmed down to balance the subbass with the rest of the system in keeping with SQ. the sub's very efficient, so doesn't need anywhere near 1000WRMS to go really loudly.

1.3cuft is good; i would think 1.5cuft as you originally planned would be perfect too. if anything, the slightly bigger box will improve low-end response ever so slightly better and wouldn't sacrifice accuracy; probably neither here nor there.

:)
