Alpine SPX / Boston Z / Morel Elate with Supremo

Im looking for some new 6" splits for my new VZ Commodore.
Im tossing up at the moment wether to go the Boston Z6 or Morel Elate 6" with Supremo tweeter, or perhaps even the Alpine Type X splits.
Ive always been a fan of the Supremos, and have a great spot for them on the dash of the VZ, which is where ive had them in the past and always had success.
Now i love my midbass, so im not too sure about what mid to go for, im even contemplating a Rainbow Power Series 7" midbass, can anyone comment on these im comparison to the Z's or Elates?
I'm looking at new amps at the same time, thinking the Audison VRX range.
Any opinions would be great.
Thanks.

Now Im no expert, but you could grab aset of 3 way Focal165K3P splits for only $1399. If the 165V2 polyglass are anything to go by(which im running), then holy crap these 3 way Focals would pump serious sound into your brain!
I've heard the Alpine SPX-177R's and to me the focals I have, which are apparently lower level spec, crape all over them.
Considered these at all?

I have never been a big fan of focal, every time ive heard them (with the exception of one car, out of a few dozen including the focal demo car in melbourne about 5 years ago) the tweeters were very harsh, something im not particularily fond of.
As far as 3 ways go, been there done that, looking for something a bit more factory looking this time, dont want to go hacking up the kick panels to fit in some midrange, just looking for factory locations in the doors and on the top of the dash (of which ive priced the panel which runs under the windscreen for $70 odd dollars to replace when it comes time to sell which is no big deal).
Thanks for your input.

Look me up whatever you decide on, would be interested in seeing how it sounds(or hearing). Maybe looking into a VZ myself in the near future. Although a set of Z6's are a bit out of my range.
Which ever way you go, make sure you use plenty of sound deadener(as I no doubt am sure you already know), I was stoked at the difference it made in my 3rd gen magna.
Luke
btw, out of curiosity, what sorta deck you gonna run?

If cost is no factor maybe try the Focal BE series.

each has its merits, and you need to determine if the added cost is worth it. matched with equally audiophile HU and amps, and a top quality installation without cutting corners, you should easily hear the benefits of the Z6's over the others. this could persuade you they are worth it, but they probably won't be head and tails superior to a set of elate's with supremo's, properly tuned (eg: active setup as i doubt the passive xover would suit the supremo's).
so there's what should clearly (ie: audibly obvious) be 3 levels of speakers here, and it's a matter of what you can justify in terms of cost and perceived value.
i personally run a combo of dynaudio and morel (dyn 7" + midrange + morel supremo), all 'active' off audison VRx amps, with alpine F1 (series 1) processor (and soon to be F1 HU). i've paid much attention to installation and the results are fantastic. i can't personally justify upgrading the speakers as the improvements are not really there to be had to any great degree. having said that, i haven't actually auditioned a set of Z6's! oh well, that limits my opinion somewhat.

Everything is out of my car at the moment, but when they go back in they will be running from a IVA-D300E/PXA-H700 combo being powered actively from an Audison VRx 4.300.
Your probably better off speaking to someone like Marty (FHRX) as he has heard all of the speakers, and can compare
Shiny, your system components are always awesome! (and only get better) Your my main person i think of when im buying my components and want to try to "outdo" someone (Altho i doubt its ever going to happen... lol)

Dyns, Morels, Focals, Rainbows, DDs or a combo of any.
Z6s are great, but a well executed 3 way set, say with an 8" in the door and a kick mounted mid/tweet or a dash/pillar mounted dome mid/tweet could give you more of everything you want for far less money.
For example.
Really good 2 way set $800-1200
Really great midbass $500-700
Running active from mid to midbass give so much more "tuneability", as with subs, midbasses really need a lot more power than mids/tweeters, running passive just isn't the best option.

Bostons i have found are too harsh too, similar to focal imho. I have heard the z6, pros, focals, dyns, alpines.
And dyns warmer sound is more to my preferance. especially the detail and clarity of the esotar tweeters.
And them compliment them with a Tru amplifier maybe.

Considering this i get great staging etc and the sound, I've found, is fantastic. Insane midbass response.
I'm running them with an MRV-T420 and yeh couldnt be happier.

reason i tell u that is i have the 7inch rainbow power series. the double stacked magnets. if u r going 2-ways because u wont a 'stock' look then this driver is not a good choice. it has a mounting depth of 96 mm so it will probably mean pods. but they run down to 50Hz very happily.
really, i cant speak highly enough of the rainbows, given tho i run a morel mid. lol.
in my opinion, u can ignore this i dont mind, dont get the Z6 if u arent gonna get a high end amp such as the Tru tech's that already have been mentioned. remember, the speaker can only do wat its told to do, mid quality amp means mid quality sound repoduction, no matter wat speakers u have.
if u r gonna spend 2k on a set of 2ways man then thats ur choice but u WILL appreciate the difference between my 2k 3-ways and ur 2k 2-ways. but u will already know that.

Would you not see Audison VRx amplifiers in the same stead as Tru Tech T-series, around the same price.
I wish i could afford the Tru Tech Coppers...haha
I have heard Rainbow splits and was impressed, but as i say- im not prepared to go a 3way setup as i want to retain a somewhat factory look.

well if u r putting ur tweeter up high then may i suggest mounting the other two drivers together? if u do decide to use the rainbow driver u will have a fairly significant pod in there. im sure u can hide a mid in there aswell. that way u wont have to fiddle around with the kicks at all. then its just a simple question of how u would seperate the two drivers so that the door cavity acts as a box for the 7inch driver and make a seperate divison for the free air to use as a box. cant be too hard to make look stock.
theres no real reason that u have to use the kicks at all if ur gonna mount the tweeter up high. then its just a simple matter of hiding the second driver. maybe make some sort of fabric covering that covers both drivers? this all depends on the fact that ur gonna use the rainbow driver and as such have a significant pod.
