G'day all - I've noticed a weird problem with my system recently - the sound is fine at low to mid levels, but as soon as I crank it (not REALLY Loud, but louder than average listening volume) The sound 'warbles'. Kinda fades in and out, a small amount, really quickly. Mostly only noticable at higher freqencies. Any suggestions on what it might be? I have no dimming lights, good battery power, and pretty much NO noise unless you turn the volume up full on quiet tracks.

Thanks in advance :)

what amps you running again?

It sounds like a frequency steering issue ;) j/k

or your ears are shouting "it's too loud"

or maybe the amps don't work so well in AB-mode but the lower levels are in the class A region of the amp (assuming a Class AB amp with moderate bias)

if it's warbling, try only playing through left channel at same volume- still doing it? if yes, then it's the amp's power supply not keeping up,.

if not still doing it, very strange, might be your HRTF issues

Tim - dont laugh man, it may just be it :P Pulse-R, its not loud enough to be 'too loud' (at least I dont think so... :)) I'll try it through the left, and see if it still occurs, but considering what my amp is, I think you might be right :)

probably one of your components is suffering from low voltage. quite possibly the HU. ie: amps suck all the power and leave little else for the other components.

if the HU powered off dedicated powerwiring or just the factory wiring?

Just off the factory loom at the minute. I might pull the HU out, and put the multimeter on the +12V while its running, and see how the power fluctuates...

MM may not be sensitive enough for realtime readings (ie: too dampened). i'd be upgrading the powerwire/groundwire to it. then you can tell me it made no difference. ;)

are the tweeters mounted behind the mid's (compared to your ears that is)

i notice at high volumes i han hear the tweeter being affected by the sound waves of the midbass that is firing across the front of the tweeter.
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

LOL shiny - I never thought about that with my MM :P I'll just upgrade the power wire then :P. Rob, if you look at my speakers while sitting in the car, the tweeter is kind of 'above' the mid. The mid would fire at your ears, while the tweeter would shoot kind of at the top of your head.

Hey KC,

If the upgrading of the power wires don't help then you might have to try a process of eleimination.

I'm assuming this has just started recently, so something must have changed to cause it.

Can you perhaps temporarily swap your head unit with another one and see if the warbling is still there?

If that doesn't solve it .... then move on to your other components and eliminate them one by one till you isolate the problem.

Sounds easy in theory .... doesn't it :P

Its probably always been there, just never had the correct conditions to notice it. Although, after some fiddling with the EQ and Q settings today, it SEEMS to be lessened...

What conditions have changed to make it noticable now and not before?

hmm, probably phase issues then. won't hurt to upgrade the wiring though. :P

Looks at Shinys other post in which he mentions using a loom to connect the HU to the standard wiring and laughs! :D :P Only kidding :P Because Its probably a good idea anyway, I'll run the +12v from the battery - and check the wiring to the tweeters for possible phase issues. Could this be cause by the cable from the battery to the AMP not being thick enough? The cable I have is the thickest the +12v terminal on my amp can take. Or maybe ask Santa for a new amp for christmas?
