WTF?? whats wrong with the loud button? its increases the bass... i have no idea what the hell you are talking about...
If you wish use the loud button but tune the amp with it off

Dude if i were i would get back in your hole and learn what LOUDNESS on a headunit actually does.

If you tune your amp without the LOUD ON that means you wil reach your amplifiers limits on a certain setting of the headunit. After this by switching it on your actually only boosting certain frequencies which means your amp will reach clipping at these frequencies before the others. Effectively by doing this you cannot reach the same volume level which you originally tuned to. So a lot of people think they CAN therefore clipping the crap out of their amp overheating the voice coils and damaging speakers or woofers.

Now do you actually think that the LOUDNESS has some sort of magic fairy dust in it and it just increases bass without actual stress on the system.

I think you need to learn a few things about Car Audio before you try to tell me what it actually does. Considering i own a car audio business and have been an installer for a number of years i think i should know.

I know it increases bass but if you need to increase bass USE a larger amplifier not a bloody LOUDNESS function.

Loud is supposed to help balance out the reduction in sensitivity of our hearing to bass and treble at low volume levels, in practice it should "fade out" as the volume increases. (not all headunits do this)

It can be usefull in the headunits that apply it correctly, but typically only when used with line level out (when tuned correctly), it is usually too aggressive with the factory gain setting on the internal BTL amp.

Tune the system initially with it off, if it fades out by the time you reach moderate listening levels then that's about right.

I'm a noob to car audio but I have a Nakamichi receiver at home which allows you to totally disable the EQ and loud stuff, and it sounds so much cleaner without any processing. I guess with a car though it's not an ideal sound stage so you have to tune it, totally over my head! :)

Thats why the amplifier comes with built in crossovers and gains so you can tune that side of things without switching loudness on.

you should tune the amps with everything set to how it will be when playing music day-to-day.

so if you like to use the Loud setting, leave it on.
If you dont use it, leave it off.

same with all other settings - bass boost, equaliser settings etc.
have everything set to how it will be when you're listening to music

easy !

loud is a preset eq setting

it boosts treble and bass

if you like the sound of the LOUD setting use it :)

I couldn't agree with STREETSOUNDZ anymore. All the loud button whether it be on your home stereo or in the care was designed to "boost" the sound at LOW listening volumes. It just boost a low and a frequency and a high frequency by 6db or so, giving you an unnatural impression of how the music you are listening was intended to sound like.

I think this topic sorts out who really knows are cares anything about SQ

Eclipse decks have a decresing loud feture. e.g. when it's low the loud feture is prominent. When the deck is at anything above 70% then it is not used by the deck. It kind of just doesn't work.

I tune with what ever I listen too.

I'm sure the SQ people in hear could agree that with my tweets mounted on the dash my stage is high BUT bright so I tune with -1 on the treble.

Guess that means I don't know my SQ?? lol!

Really I have heard all the warm/soft/bright/smooth convo's over the years, and then heard the cars that these poeple have.

mzoghbi, set it to how you like it and then tune from there.

ummm on 99% of equipment the loud feature is defeated at approx half volume or less, its there soley to increase the bass reponce at low volume on the deck! if you turn it on at a high level you will see that it does nothing.

you have to watch out with some decks though cause they may label a bass boost as 'loud' or something else which is not a true louness button.

but yeah just do your levels without it, via the standard way then when you want you can use it or just turn the volume up when you want it louder which seems more logical :)
