hi guys, the 13 W7 cost a lot more than a lot of other subs, is it really that much better sounding? not asking if its the best sounding, just wondering what it actually sound like and if there is anyone in melbourne who is running one that would be kind enough to give me a demo as buying one is on the cards. thank you, charlie

Is it really that much better sounding for the price than other subs that are cheaper? I guess thats really up to you.

I sold my W7 and I'm using one that is 1/2 the price and sounds better.

If you have spent $10,000 on other equipment then it is fine. Otherwise, just spend $1,000 on better splits and keep the Type X.

I find it interesting that JL themselves rate their W6 as the better series when comparing it to the W7 when taking into consideration musical accuracy, etc.
They only recommend the W7 series if you're really going to put more power through it than the W6 series can handle.

From experience I have found this to be so as I used to work at a shop that sold them. They also have the benefit of weighing less and costing much less.

just listened to my friend's W7 yesterday and somehow it does not impress me at all :( For the price he paid, it doesnt' sound any better than my old 12" W6

but again, its probably because the tuning and power he's running

hmm... guess ill have to hear one... the price is very concerning though... plus the fact that you have to power it with a jl amp to match the resistance and get some decent power to it... the dd looks to be much better value with a bit more grunt... anywhere ii can hear one in melboourne phil??

You have to power it with a JL amp? Who told you that?

you dont have to use a jlaudio amp but they are very nice. two 1000/1s is a very good match.

however a 1ohm stable amp with 1000watts rms +++ will do.

im using a rf amp that is designed for 1ohm even though specs state that the jl 13w7 will present a 0.75ohm load. works very well. My setup is a slot loaded port tuned very very low @20hz. Subsonic filter was set @ 20hz (30db/oct) and low pass set @ 50hz @18db/oct. The sub doesnt sound like most car setups. ITs the way i like it. You dont even know its there until you turn it off. It adds body and enjoyment. This sub setup can never be described as slam or punchy bass.

the 13w7 is a sub thats not for everyone. its very deep and effortless sound. The only sub ive heard thats close to this is the adire audio tumult sub.

if you like a loud slamming sub then dont buy a jlaudio 13w7. A rockford power sub would be a lot better chioce for this type of application

hmmm,
A very very good sub.....YES. worth the mone? Mmm...maybe not. But i dun see how the w6 v2 is better than the w7. the W7 is a totally diff sub altogether. A lot of people get mixed up that the w7 is purely an SPL sub. Like jas has mentioned above.if yer after just purely TUMP TUMP TUMP..be better off with soemthign like DD or brahma etc2. But since i listend to a w7 in my mates car/tuned, it become the 'sub to have' for me. As a reference, some of the subs ive owned includ the idmax, xls peerless, seas, boston, focals k n W etc2. I would buy 1 already if not for the price.

Is it due to lower distortion of the sub that those listening to W7 experienced less bass??

DD and Brahma for "TUMP TUMP TUMP"??? Do you realise that Brahma's are SQ subs? Not SPL subs.

We often percieve a distorted sound as being louder than the same volume sound with no distortion, so when you have a setup that can produce bass (or any range) with very low distortion it can sound lower in volume.

In America, the w7, idmax, etc are all roughly the same or similarly priced. It is only in Australia that the JL costs soooooo much more than the rest.
