Hi

Looking for a bit of advice to get the most out of my front stage.

I'm putting in a a semi-active 3-way front stage at the moment.
The mid-range and tweeter are going to be sitting in the kicks, running on a passive xover. The driver is on its own channel and will be sitting in the doors.

At the moment my design has the mid-range and tweeter sitting on the same mdf baffle.

3 questions :

- Is it worth offseting the tweeter from the mid-range slightly to ensure the phase is correct ?

- How do I calculate what the offset should be

- Once its in, how can I check the phase ?

Tweeter is a Rainbow CAL 26 Titan VOF ( from Profi Vanadium splits )
Mid-range is a Morel CDM54

thanks,
Dave

Check out Shiny_car's setup, similar placement.
offset is to try and get the drivers on the same plane relative to the listener / focus point.
If the Mid has a "deeper" cone than the tweet, you set back the tweet roughly in line with the base of the midrange. It's a bit hard to describe (pictures paint a thousand words  )

there's really no significant advantage of offsetting the drivers. i used to believe that the tweeters can be offset back a little to help with phase, but i don't know the science of this, nor believe it's true or necessary.

so in the end, keeping them on the same plain/baffle is perfectly fine if that fits. in my car, i had to offset them out of necessity, to make them fit!

Dave..

you got a good look at my kicks didnt you? mine are mounted similar to yours..
if not, i have attached a pic of the frame for my kicks...

the supremo goes in the bottom and the midrange up the top.. to get some similar aiming spot, i used the mdf mount for the midrange for that speaker.. altho cut down from 0mm to half mdf thickness and angled downwards..

should work fine.. i know mine does.. :)

my dad is a carpenter by trade so he has the tools.. we used a hand plane if i remember right, and 'filed' it down to the level i wanted..
