Unbalanced is one for earth, one for signal, actually...

I know. Earth is signal negative.

The earth is used for the signal reference yes. But it is not an independent negative signal as in balanced line systems. Which is why if you try and use twisted pair for unbalanced systems, you get no advantage. Yes, noise will be equal in both lines, but due to the fact the earth is now carrying a signal (which the power earth is not) you can get noise.

It is an important difference. As noted by the vast effort put in PA systems to use 'floating earths'.

g'day guys,
will soon be installing my cabling in my VS, and am undecided whether to use twin shielded coax or twisted pair audio interconnects. what would yield a cleaner sound?
also, if i do decide to go down the twisted pair path, is using 16G ofc figure 8 and twisting this (with a drill) and connecting RCA's to this be acceptable? or should proper cable be used? also, what sort of twist rate should i be using if i do decide to make my own twisted pair leads.
any advice would be great.
thanks in advance,
John.
the dude never mentioned whether his cables should be balanced, hes looking to make his own , why arnt they being called equal length then if being balanced has more implications than just being the same length.........zion e.g exaust header and tuned length exaust header
