Hey guys. First off yes I've read the Jaycar threads (I started the last big one) and have listened to what everyone has to say. Theyre good value for money however there may be a difference in SQ albeit small. My question is, would a Jaycar amp running 700WRMS @ 2ohms be suitable to run a Oz Audio Matrix Elite 12"? These are nice subs with good SQ and I want to feed it with a decent amp, however not blow my budget in the process. Im already spending far more than I'd planned, and I'd like to cut costs on the amps if possible. So would Jaycar be the go for an amp of this level? Or would it not do the job properly?
Cheers, Blake.

i would look more to the FS forums and get and older better quality amp. i paid $450 for my amp and it's 500wrms (underrated) it's more than enough for day to day listning. just wont push it hard enough for outright SPL.

Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

I've been looking at an Infinity 600W RMS. Are Infinity ok for SQ? I'd be happy to use a Jaycar, but if it's not going to give me the most out of my sub, then I'll go elsewhere.

i think if u want to just get your system up and running buy what u feel is good ,but if you want to begin to listen to every little tremor of sound then blow your budget on an amp that will get you atleast half way to your top SQ dream system , you will save money in the long run ,,, i know

Err, thanks champ, but I don't quite follow what you're saying. Are you saying not to worry about SQ with the sub and just go for the Jaycar, or are you saying that if I really want SQ then go elsewhere? Sorry, im a bit dense!

hes basically saying it depends on how picky you are being with the sq of your system. I really cant see too much problems with a jaycars sq running a sub, but as fudd said if u cant find something nicer second hand around the same price go nuts

My advice would also be to look 2nd hand... Almost all my gear has been second hand and I've never had any problems...

And if you buy the Jaycar, then install it, do you know what it will be?

Second hand.

So in that respect you can never use new gear :P

Second hand, or cheap jaycar amps that wont do your high quality gear justice. Spend the money where your ears will hear it.

That's a good point, I suppose in that case it comes down to learning what brands are trustworthy and give good SQ and which don't. I really want a sub amp with good SQ, putting out around 700w RMS in a 2ohm load at least and I dont want to pay more than about $500. Perhaps Im asking too much, but surely second hand I could find something like this?
Can anyone recommend a company that makes good sub amps? Are Infinity any good? I've heard they're good for the money.

Also for $450, I'd consider this an excellent match for it.

Why run an excellent sub off the cheapest of the cheap amps?

In the end, the difference between 600 and 1000W is barely audible. What you will hear is the difference in control.

As they say, power without control is nothing.

some people *think* they can hear differences between amps. The majority cannot. Not many people have done blindfolded comparisons, but most who have simply can't accurately tell the difference between amplifiers.

I personally would seriously think about how discerning your ears are before forking out extra money for a "well known" brand.

Its been stated before. To get a small percentage increase in SQ for amps, you'll be spending double. Double the price for every, say, 5 or 10% increase.

Not only that, but many of the mid-high amps share the SAME INTERNALS, just different casings.

Its a confusing world, the car audio amplifier market.

Personally, for sub-bass, i dont think your going to notice much of a bloody difference. I'd go whatever amp i can find, that suits a budget i'd set to myself, and provides the required power. If a secondhand item does that, great. If a new Pheonix Gold or Audison amp fits my budget, great. If Jaycar is all i could afford, i'll use it, and very happily.
f*** cosmetics and reputation. If i wasnt happy with whatever amp i chose for sub-bass down the track, i'd probably look at upgrading the sub and/or box before the amp.

I would rather have an idmax, in a nice box, off a jaycar mono pumping the required power into it, than have a cheaper sub (say a IDQ, or a mid-spec DD) running off an under-powered "THEORETICALLY BETTER" amplifier.

Thats my personal stance.
