in THIS car i've had 5 different hu's
5 different sets of front speakers, 3 different sets of ambient tweeters
6 different front stage amplification setups (currently using 3 amps for front stage, so 8 amps in total)
5 different sub amps
3 different subwoofers
4 different types of rear fill with 2 different amplifiers (hertz splits, alpine coaxs 7X10's and 6X9's, currently not using any)
(this doesn't include equipment loaned for testing, or "makeshift" setups while by installs were being completed)
Not many of those changes happened simultaneously, so it could be 15 upgrades.
If you're talking about full upgrade where most components are changed, then i guess it's 5, but each upgrade was staggered over a few months, and they kind of blended together.

Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

Around 6 headunits in my very first car, with help to my old man who worked @ Panasonic. On the very last unit is where I finally installed some splits properly, couple of amps, 3XS, & subbies.
Then in ex's car where I forked out 99% of the audio system, we started off with a complete setup consisting of hu, two amps, single sub & splits. Then the headunit was changed over, then upgraded the tweeter, sub amp blew up so bought a better one (after borrowing another one for a few months), upgraded subwoofer, changed system from passive to fully active, then added a digital crossover, then a digital crossover / eq.
Now in my car, I hoped to have taken the above lessons into account to minimise cost etc. However since the original install I have upgraded the headunit (from McIntosh to HX-D2), which then involved changing the wiring around to take full advantage of the headunit's features. I am happy with system, though there are still a couple flaws here and there. Will I fix them...maybe. The only things I can see that needs possible upgrading is the tweeter (and possibly new mid range & tweeter positioning) & a really good professional tune. There is nothing else in my system that I can fault really, so if I were to do the above it will be GAME OVER for me.
I have helped with a number of friend's system and they've not once upgraded or changed the system from the original design that I suggested to them. It would be great to do that perfect system from day 1, but that's pretty hard to come by

Nothing worse than buying some gear, installing it then finding out its not really that great. Not a problem i've had but seen it way to many times.
That being said, I bought all my gear, had it all installed and thats the way it stays. Simple as that. Do the homework and try to get it right first time.
Works with stereo's, just don't get me started on spraypainters....GGRRR....

Hence the reason that I will not be putting subs in the car again.
I am thinking about adding some Jaycar Response 6.5" mids to the back doors for a little more bass.
Its definately time for a new HU, thinking about getting a DVD HU without the screen. Not really interested in movies just MP3's.
