can someone please explain to me what this "Kick Bass" thing is??


i keep seeing people reccomend to others when they want speakers to get "kick bass" speakers?

is it just another marketing gimmick?


the only 2 times i have listen to any speakers with kickbass (once in my car for a few weeks and the others in a friends car) both lacked in the midbass area?

from what i can tell these speakers like to be high-passed at around 80hz, you might get snappy midbass but now you need your sub to play up higher, not somthing that takes my fancy.

im assuming its a marketing description to describe speakers made to pump out solid kick u in the chest kick drum style bass, i believe the rainbow profi have a kickbass version and yes apparently they do need to be highpassed properly due to lack of excursion.

It is a marketing term, used to describe a form of speaker-building technology by Rainbow.

From Rainbow:

What does all this mean? Well, I've found it allowed my transition between sub bass and midrange frequencies to be much tighter, responsive and controlled.

It also means the differences between KickBass and non-KickBass splits of the same category have different driver construction, as well as cross-over frequencies.

Anyone who has ever listened to my car has never commented about a lack of midbass, on the contrary, they have commended my vehicle on phenomenal midbass.

My old Profi Vanadium splits are now in Dogo's car, so perhaps you can ask him for an alternative opinion on Kickbass.

Kick bass was in reference to the bass drum and tom "kick" - typically between 80 and 120 hz. Midbass is more a warmth, whereas kick bass is the actual percussive hit you hear when a tom or bass drum is struck. Listen to Ticks and Leeches and Reflection by Tool if you want to hear some prime examples of kickbass. The term has been around a lot longer than Rainbow.
