Hi all

I've got a Kicker kx400.1 feeding my Hertz HX300D about 400rms

Would changing to either a Kicker 12L5 or 12L7 be an upgrade (still using the kx400.1)

Would 400rms even move the kickers? Should i even bother?

I have heard an L7 in a big ported box with heaps of power and it hit really (really) hard and still sounded decent. I dont know how much power they need though. Either way, for the price of an L7 there is a lot of subs that would go fine with 400wrms and definately be an upgrade.

just for something different it might be worth having a listen to a rainbow sub. i know they ambross would be in the price range, not sure about the vanadium though. STREETSOUNZ will be able to help you though

or else there's the Pioneer TS-W12PRS at 300WRMS, it's a lot louder than most subs due to 92dB sensitivity, and only 29litre enclosure required.

i have said it many times on here, Critter on here used to run a L7 in a slot port and it was and still is one of my fav subs.
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

I was under the impression that one should tend towards less sensitive subs for SQ applications due to their ability to more accurately reproduce precise information?

the higher the sensitivity the lower the acuracy...this is true...i would recommend focal's range of subs as i distinctly remember one of their series around the 400rms mark and it sounded good, or you could try the alpine type r very accurate...if you want loudness though you should definitely check out fusions powerplant 15 inch, it takes 600rms and has a sensitivity of 94.5 and costs less than $400=loud

But was he only feeding it 400rms?

I've only got limited power, and so i'm lookinf for a very efficient sub. And even if i do upgrade, would it be much better than the Hertz HX300D i'm currently running?

what sort of upgrade are you after? do you want it to be louder or do you want it to sound nicer?

I just replaced my HX300 (SVC) to the IDQ12 and it plays a lot lower and heaps smoother. I havent tuned anything yet, and the sub is not run in so i cant comment on how loud it is in comparison, but the IDQ is more sensitive, so it should be louder.

like the other guys have said, there is no shortage of subs to look for. let us know what you are looking for in the upgrade, and the people on this forum will be able to help more.
