Either that, just get a good set of two ways, then if you really want, make sure that you get a set which has an upgradable mid, such as focal 165kp set if you find it lacking.

I ran my K2p's for over a year, really happy with them,
recently i bought a set of 100KP's and used my K2p midrange as a midbass,
and I'm stoked with the result, much better imaging and detail,
although like the others said, it's a little wasted on Dance and trance.
it's kinda like the same as buying 3 ways and all the top SQ gear,
then listening to MP3's.

Most of the dance music these days is recorded from MP3's.

Just picked up my midrange's yesterday, and while they are not yet in my car, I've run them together with my midbass and tweeter in my room.

I connected two way on one side, three way on the other, and ballanced out back and forth from left to right - I can truly confirm that the dedicated midrange makes an absolutely huge impact on the sound in every type of music I have listened to ranging from jazz, accoustic music, dire straights to rnb and dance, all the way to rock and metal.

There is just a noticable frequency range where you can tell the bigger midbass just cannot reproduce clearly. There are a great deal of small, fine details that come out that were not there before, and even electronic and dance music has come so much more to life.

Male vocals, female vocals, pianos, guitars, violins, symbols all sound so clear, detailed and natural. I've been experimenting for some time with different tweeters, tried swapping my two crossover sets, tried both sets of midbass units, and finally with the midrange added in I have really come one huge step closer to 'that sound' that i've been aiming for.

You really do notice the difference between good and bad recordings, and it's like night and day. It's gotten to the point where it truly sounds like the quality of sound is being limited by the recordings far moreso then they are by the speakers.

Can't wait to get the three way set into the car... now just gotta work out where they will go .... :(

IMO A 2 way set-up makes more sense than a 3 way set-up unless you can mount a mid in your dash. If not and your speakers are going in the door 2 way makes more sense to me for many reasons. Mechnical phase, simplified crossover, lower fitting costs and complexity, etc

What if:

I can only fit a 6" halfway along the door. (Which points into my thigh)
I can fit a 3-4" in the kick (but no larger)
I can fit a tweeter anywhere (within reason)

Would you:
A) 2-Way 6" splits with tweeter in kick/high door and woofer in door
B) 2-Way 4" splits both in kick
C)3-Way 4" in kicks, 6" in door.

???

I'm imagine B/C are the best choice as the upper midrange will be less muffled. All three are far from perfect... Are there any decent, sensibly priced 4" splits that go low enough to blend with a sub, cos that would be my preferred option.

There was a thread not long ago in the SQ forum on this very subject. Some 4" mids were discussed quite a bit with regards to their linearity at lower frequencies.

Was that the 3" Legatia mids by Hybrid Audio?. A 3" that can play down to 130Hz is pretty impressive.
