I in the market for a 4 channel amp to run the fronts and a sub.
front: 6.5" MB Quart PSD 216. rated 60-120Watts, not sure if is RMS or Peak watts.
Sub: JBL 12" 200 watts RMS
The Alpine PDX 4.150 and MVR-F545 is what i have in mind. I really like the PDX for is size.
The questions is will the PDX amp which is a Class D amp sound cleaner than the V12 F545 ?
I always see Class D amp used for subwoofers.
Alpine a Stated the THD for the PDX is <=1% THD+N. where the F545 is 0.08THD.
can someone pls pls help me out here.
cheers..

Im no expert, but I know that Im extremely happy with it.
I have used it to run an active setup on a pair of Phoenix Gold Xenon splits, off a Eclipse CD7000 HU.
As to whether it will sound cleaner - I have no idea.

i guess neither of us are really in a position to say - cos we haven't auditioned them - but i've read the feedback from at least 2 industry members here who have heard these amps. they have the quick and easy ability to compare them with the V12 amps on demo boards, and have no doubt spent many, many hours with alpine gear; far more than you or i quite possibly.
their feedback was extremely positive, suggesting the PDX amps are superior to the V12's. i think that counts for something.
again, don't let the specs or theory dictate the decision. indeed, audition first...

Is this a statement based on an assumption????? Listen to them, they sound fantastic, just because someone has stated that class d can't sound any good, doesn't mean its true, i'd agree that all early attempts at class d full range were pretty average, but these need to be heard!!!!
Alpine is not a company to do a half job at making an amp, those others are, if it wasn't as good as the v12 they would've badged it a v power!!

which means if they fail, forget getting them repaired. They will be irrepairable.
the thing I love about my soundstream hand made amps, is if something stuffs up it's so easy to fix.
you open them up, and it's all openly layed out, cleanly tidy, with full size components all soldered on.
I'm prepared to put up with them taking up more space, to have the piece of mind if i do something silly, i can fix them.
I've got a rockford at home I stuffed up, one of the 5 channels I killed by shorting it out,
the amp was worth $900, I got quoted $600 to "attempt" to repair it, but no garantees because it's
dual layer PCB Machine made. I still had to pay the money if they fixed it or not.
pretty much they couldn't repair them and basically put a figure on it to scare me off.
I'm sure the PDX Sound fantastic, they are nice and small too. which is great.
