hey guys and gals! im really stuck on this one, ive been auditioning splits in cars which arent setup for hardcore and metal music. which ive found to be a waste of time. they sound like crap :nea: which i know is due to setup. anyone listen to this music and care about sq? what splits do you run and how do they go? ive been recomeded mb quart qsd216, $1700 is alot to spend for something unsuitable. they would be run off a rf p5002 amp and im gonna run a p3 10" in the tub of my ute. any help or dudes in melbourne northern burbs let me check out your setup? thanks again.

Im into metal, In Flames, Slipknot, Metallica etc. and I was searching for splits just as you are.
I found the following to suit my listening tastes:

Rockford Fosgate Punch 2 Way Comps

Alpine Type S 2 Way Comps (for some reason they suited metal more than the Type R)

Eclipse 2 Way Comps (these were my second choice after the rainbows, they're brilliant)

and finally Rainbow SLC 2(or 3)65 'kick', or if you want to spend a bit more, Rainbow Profi Vanadium 'kick'.

They all sounded nice to me, but I went with the Rainbows because I liked the overall sound the most. Mind you, nothing I can tell you will make the decision FOR you, but it WILL give you some idea of what to look out for.

Entering an SQ comp is about spending countless hours working to pay for a great sub, only to be told you need to spend countless hours tuning so you can sound like you don't have a sub at all.

Yeah whilst I wouldn't buy Boston Pros for pure SQ (personal choice here lads :P) I have to say they would be very well suited for metal assuming u partnered them with the right sub (G5 :D).

Also, check the Type X's, I currently use them - and for killer midbass from bass drums etc they are fantastic.

Looks like you've got auditioning to do mate, I haven't heard the Type X's or the Boston Pros so I can't really comment.

I listen to a lot of hard rock and the likes, mudvayne about the heaviest. I've got MB Quart references and love them. Plenty of kick and the top end handles it nicely.

I'm way out east but you're welcome to listen.

Ill agree with blakeyboyr I listen to the same stuff as him in flames, soilwork, through to much heavier ie amon amarth, dimmu borgir and more. I bought a set of focals before i knew very much and have auditioned and bought my new rainbow profi kick speakers. I dont think you would want anything other than these or possibly the boston bros from watt i have heard.

i would recommend phass, eton, rainbow and focal. they play mental very well. as my opinion, i won't use rf amp to run MB quart only play rf amp with subs. RF and MB Quart are selling by same company in AU and their dealers would say a lot of good words for it. this is my experience and it make me scare about this 2 brand. although this is good stuff, this is not value for money. if you want to spend that budget, try those speakers (in similiar price range) i mention, you would find what you want. listen before you buy.

Rainbow. But then again I'm biased. Soft-dome tweeters. Depends a bit on what metal you listen to I guess, a big factor I find is also the recordings. Some lesser know/earlier releases sound very different to later releases. A nice tight sub also helps make a big difference to the overall sound, if that double kick is a sloppy mess it just ruins it.

as far as i know, some of RF and MB quart products now made in Asia. and they still say made in USA and Germany. i said they are average product. on the financail side, they are not value for money. if he wants to spend that much budget, he has a lot of choice. what i want to mention him is do not trust the dealer cos they cannot demo play their product just say good thing. then i suggest him trust his ear.

like i said before, id rather a precise robot making my amps rather than a sweat shop in america, not discounting usa built amps here, but thats wot i prefer...

RF is going downhill in yearly turnover, and will soon be moving to asia too...

car audio mag use the qsd216 as thier reference speaker to measure others by???

average is a little bit shy, they make great speakers...

and RF make fantastic amps...

i dont believe that any other amps are made as solidly as a T series or higher, an thier coolong system is second to none..

you could throw one at a wall and the wall would come off second best

these are the main attributes i look for in an amp...

For that Type of music I'd recommend the Hertz Mille's. I think that they would shine as they have lots of attack, as with pro 60's and the Eton/Phass

if u want to test out a sub, get some fear factory going. fast and frequent double kick will test out the tightest of subs and sounds awesome
