MB Quartz, Rainbow Kicks would be my suggestion for nice warm midrange and good midbass.
the DLS are also Very good.

if you want more detail and faster kick Focal K2P's when properly installed can be tremendous, but they can take a bit of tuning to warm them up if you prefer that sound, then your probably better with the other options I suggested. Unfortunalty as with most Focals poor installation and average amp = poor sound.

Properly installed midbass, and a decent sub behind a nice amp with plenty of power will make all the difference.

the worst thing i find with alot of metal/rock is the highs can get a little overwealming, so a soft silk dome tweeter with a softer less detailed sound will be easier on the ears for the long run.

I think a really nice setup would be the Focal K3P if you where prepared to do the install,
and run as a 2/3 way setup, with the extra midbass. Would be a pretty dam kick ass setup for that kind of music.

i listen to alot of killswitch engage, slipknot andmudvayne and also had alot of trouble finding splits to suit this particular style of music. after much deliberation i went with a set of focal 165 v1's (400rrp). paired up with 2 type R subs i couldnt be happier with the SQ of the system suited to this style of music

My 2nd set of splits i was looking for i auditioned with alot of metal. By far the ones that nearly took your head off and had huge midbass were Total Recoils

You should really go and see these guys, they got great SQ (not as good as Dyns etc) but for metal IMHO they cant be beat.

I'm a metal Head all the way, and i'm talking some real heavy sh!t, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary right through to 3 inches of blood, Trivium etc.

Working in car audio i got to listen to a lot of speakers, and having many different demo boards certainly helped, but i came down to two speakers, Polykevlar focals and boston pro's.

In the end i went the K2P focals front stage and KP focals rear. on the other hand my 2nd car has a set of Boston Z's waiting for it.

I am running Type-X splits at the moment. In terms of kick they are amazing (lots of sound deadening), the tweeters really need to be reduced a little, and the crossovers winge like crazy (lighting up) when playing loud cymbals and other very high pitched drum notes.

Perhaps I need to eq them a bit, anyone else running Type-X splits and find the tweets fairly harsh?

Rockford do not own MB Quart, they have nothing to do with it. They did for 12 months over a year ago but did not purchase the German factory so it never worked. MBQ is now owned "wholly" by Maxxsonics USA.

ALL MB QUART SPEAKERS ARE MADE IN GERMANY WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE NEW DISCUS SUBS, ONLY JUST AVAILABLE. THERE ARE NO PLANS TO PRODUCE OTHER SPEAKERS IN ASIA.

Rockfords speakers are made in China, all subwoofers are made in the USA with the exception of the P1 series which are also made in China. All amps are still made in the USA.

Who cares where they are made or who makes them or who owns them?? Its only for p3nis measuring anyway. Build quality is nice, but you can get good build quality from any country (statement not reversible)

I only care about what they sound like. They are speakers after all...
