hi guys,

i read in another post not long ago, about how the pxa h-701 increases sound quality dramatically....

what is it that you have to do to achieve this, something was said about fibre i think...

just curious, because if i can make my 9853 sound better like this, i will,

other wise im just gonna get a hx-d2

hope u guys get wot i mean...
cheers

I think that what your referring to is the optic fibre link between the PXA and the HU, however I don't think that your hu allows that at the moment. IIRC the phantom face unit does, as does the old 6cd stacker.

I personally wouldn't think it increases the sound quality dramatically, but what is does do is add a whole lot of tunability to the system. The optical cable is supposed to reduce noise, but normal RCA's if half decent don't either.

from my experience, D2 will give you better sound but HU+701 wil give U better tuneability. XO in D2 is sucks but you always built your own passive isn't it.

EQ of the D2 isn't that great 701 is a much more flexible. 701 is one of the most powerful tuning tool available for budget concious audiophile. I would recommend D1+701 or cheap crap HU +cda-624+ 701 instead

Sell the 9853, they have at best average sound quality output.

if you want the full tunability, go the Alpine 9861 DVD Player, + the 701.

the 9861 has a very very high S/N Ratio and a proper 24bit DAC required for DVD's.
and the SQ should be similar if not equal to the HXD2.
but in any which case, it's optical connection from the 9861 to the 701, so you will get to use the 701's 24bit DAC.

the HXD2 is a fantastic head unit, but it is getting a bit aged in terms of functionality.

You can use the 9861 to control the H701,
however I cannot comment if you get the same user capability of the RUX 701.

I'd still prefer the RUX myself since it's designed for the operation of the processor.
it's something I also want to look into myself too. Because if the 9861 can perfectly control the 701, I might go that way myself yet. I Originally never went that way because i was quoted $1900 for the 9861 and the RUX and the PHX. which isn't too bad.. but it was more money than I was planning.. $1500/1600 for a 9861 and the PHX on it's own is another proposition though.

for the time being i'll keep using my eclipse 8053, since I havn't seen a single Din head unit yet thats better for active duties.
