Ive got a response 4x100 and im planning to buy the 12inch double magnet sub. Im going to run the sub off 2 of the channels, i want some suggestions of how to do it. through reading some posts through the search function i discovered that theres a few ways to do it at different ohms, thats where im getting losts. if anyone can give me some help, that would be great

I can only think of two different ohmage setups that you can do with that sub, either connect each coil in series and bridge it off the amp (will either be 4 or 8 ohm) or run each coil seperately of each channel at it's natural ohmage (2 or 4).

More info would help me think differently

actually i don't think u have many chocies!!
its dual 4ohhm coils.
so all u can really do is 1 channel into each coil. which will give u 100w into each coil.
or
wire the coils in parallel.
and run it off 1 channel. but this will only give u a total of 150w!!

i am sure that those DVC subs will give u more than just a 'bit of kick' .. they go plenty hard.

Is this a temporary solution, or something that you won't be adding to?? (or that you don't THINK you'll be adding to!!)

If it's the "end of the road", get a different sub to maximize you're amplifier's potential (a 4 ohm SVC model) and bridge those channels!!

If it's an intermediate step, maybe you can run the DVC sub of 2 of the channels (one per voice coil) for the time being, then buy a dedicated 2 channel amp to run what ever you've currently got running off the other two channels. Then you'll be getting the most out of that amp!!

I already have the amp, was just wondering about the double magnet as i think its a good sub and i can get it for a good price. Do u think its a good sub for the amp?

bear in mind only want to use 2 channels to run the sub.

I've got the precion DVC and it's got a fair bit of kick.
Need something to compare it to.
will be doing that on the 16th, anyways.
if your not willing to run the amp bridged into 2*300, I think you might be better off with something like a venom or alpine S type SVC bridged to 300wrms. I do feel as if my sub is going to waste and planning to get a 4*100 to run the sub. 300wrms per coil.

just my 2Cents.

yeah, as mentioned, to get the best power output from any amp (to run subs, where power is important), you need to 'impedence-match'.

for your amp, you will notice from the specs that it produces its best power when 2 channels are bridged (combined) and drive a 4ohm load. that is: 1x300WRMS into 4ohm bridged mono (from 2 channels).

taking the double magnet, it is dual voice coil (DVC) 4+4ohm. it can be wired differently, but only to offer:
*2ohm overall: wiring the VCs in parallel
*8ohm overall: wiring VCs in series
*dual 4ohm: wiring VCs to individual channels; no advantage over 8ohm run off bridged channels

relate this back to the amp. note that it is NOT 'stable' to drive 2ohm bridged mono; that is, the lower impedence demands more current flow (low resistance = more flow) which = heat. and the amp is not designed for this, so would either overheat/smoke or shut down into protection mode. realise too, that 2ohm bridged mono means each channel drives the equivalent of 1ohm; it thus should also make sense that 4ohm bridged mono means each channel drives 2ohm, and of course that amp is 2ohm (stereo) stable (per channel).

so you can see that the double magnet is not configurable for 4ohm mono. Posted Image and running it as either 8ohm mono or dual 4ohm will only yield 200WRMS total on tap.

as suggested, perhaps consider a sub that can offer 4ohm (mono). given the price of the double magnet (RRP$289), you could consider stuff like:
*JL audio 12W0-4: ~$250, excellent value sub, SVC 4ohm version
*alpine SWS-1241 12": ~$200, another excellent value sub; 2001 model SWS-1240 may be cheaper if stock remains
*phoenix gold, hertz, etc

any of these subs, with 300WRMS on tap, will perform really well.

you should also consider what sorts of boxes they require to perform optimally (sealed or ported, size); feel free to ask if unsure. as this may narrow your choice.

good luck Posted Image
