Doors completely deadened and sealed 15-17 sq ft Per Door.
unsealed Door 10sq ft per door.
Boot, 60-100 SQ Feet
Floor 30-70 sq ft
Roof 30-50 sq ft
Entire Car, 200-300 SQ Feet
Utes normally need about 100-150sq ft,
Sedans 150-300sq ft.
But this is "complete" and proper deadening.
not just a bit here and there.. I mean everything.
It works out rather expensive if you want to do it with dynamat extreme.
I tend to do the important surfaces with dynamat, and the not so important surfaces with a cheaper product.
If your being scant, you can SD a sedan with 100-150 sq feet. you will get great results, and going the extra 150 sq ft really is only neccessary for pure SQ systems or SPL.
by the time I finished SD My BA Falcon Ute I had used 190 SQ Ft of deadener.
but then I also did my tray and front guards too which was a extra 30-40sq ft.
When I'm deadening I use the Knock Test.
I apply 1 layer, then I knock the panel in a few locations if i can hear any resonance at any freq, I apply another layer. then knock test again, until I remove ALL resonances from that particular panel.
Depending on the car, large open panels may need as much as 3 layers in places to be 100% effective.
it depends alot of the quality of the metals and thickness, example a mazda 121 door needs more deadening per panel than say a Rolls Royce Fantom.. (well the fantom doesn't need it at all, but for examples sake) since the 121 has super thin panels.
