I think I am going to buy stock in Dynamate!

I'm sitting here thinking that a great deal of money is going into one of the most expensive materials to deaden sound in cars. WOW. While I support the use of Dynamate and the like, for over all noise reduction there are less expensive material that can be used. Especially on things like roofs and boot lids.

My understanding for using Dynamate and the like is to lower the resonance of the material is being applied to. It takes a relatively low amount of mass to lower the resonance in the auditable range. No?

For large surfaces like the roof it makes more sense to me to add enough mass to stop resonance and use a material like form, wool or fiberglass to stop the reflections. The boot lid, use a good closed cell foam with lots of contact cement.

Cheers

I think your right there, however its just the more mass the less vibrations. You just have to find the very thin line between, just enough mass and not enough.

For most people who dont have the time, like me :) the more, the better.

it seems logical to use things like tar based paints for building up surfaces so the dont resonate, howver after seeing install shots of past people trying to save $100-$200 i say to myself look how dirty they are and look at that paint everywhere :P...

in reality after all the money that a good system costs to setup its not going to hurt the pocket that much more

I agree. Sound deadening is the most effective way of getting 'Everything out of your system' so to speak.

The aluminium-bitumen backed sheets are much easier to work with, even if its not dynamat or roadkill it would still do a better job.
