Hi,
How does the Clarion brand speakers compare with Alpine speakers?
Speakers I am referring to are the 30W RMS power range.
Cheers

One of the guys here, (NUTS) just upgraded from the $400 rrp clarions (dont ask me what model) to the Alpine Type-X 6.5's... He loves the sound of the Alpine's and grins like a little kid whenever you ask him about them....

Dont kid yourself.... clarion have never been renowned for their range of speakers/subs.

A person with your level of knowledge ought to know that

a person with my sort of knowledge DOES know that both companies make speakers that when installed correctly can sound amazing, evidence being the clarion demo car that won a comp or two in Pro Show last season in caasq-vic running clarion speakers.

and beside the point, we still dont know what models he wants to compare.

The best speaker is the one you like the sound of the most :)

~*~ System installed by Precision Car Audio Engineering ~*~
Alpine - Rainbow - JL Audio
Entering an SQ comp is about spending countless hours working to pay for a great sub, only to be told you need to spend countless hours tuning so you can sound like you don't have a sub at all.

As the first reply said. Need specifics here to define the SQ of a speaker. If you think the brand name does then you are kidding yourself.
Since there are only a handful of high volume speaker manufacturers in the world, its safe to say that when buying name brand, chance are the same company made the speakers you decided against.
I stood at the near end of speaker production lines in surprise. I watched the same speaker get 3 different labels, 3 different packaging and have a RRP from $179 to $699
NAME BRAND MEANS NOTHING when your dealing with brands like Clarion, Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer and the likes. There is a good chance that one company makes them all.
Having said that, there is a difference between brands. I have found Apline full range speakers to always be bright in top end. Clarion, a company that has never been known for high end speakers do have some nice sounding systems as I am sure Alpine, Kenwood or any other main stream manufacturer has.
Point being, and I think someone else already has made it, you have to pick something that sounds best to you. Forget the name brand and just listen.
Cheers

Two things-

1- why limit yourself to two brands to choose from?

2- Why limit yourself to such a limited choice of speakers by going with 5x7 inch speakers?

Most vehicles that have 5x7 inch speakers can accept bigger speakers or a different size with the use of an adaptor.

Head for your local specialist store and have a chat to someone about the possibilities that you have open to you...
