Yeah, and considering it was mentioned to mount them up high, i'd find it interesting to see where that 7 litres is going to fit on top of the dash

you could also get Legatia 3in mids that will run free air :)
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

7 Lt shouldn't be that tough, should it? A bit big for top of dash mounting but I havn't modelled them in yet either. Might lose a little bottom with a smaller enclosure. Say 300 and up? hmmm
I'm waiting for my mate to get the drivers. I'll do TS param's testing and post results. I havn't seen a freeair response plot yet either. Time will tell. Drivers should be here for the weekend and I should have test results and auditioned them in the 7 lt box which is already built.
Let you know what I find.
Cheers

Yeah legatias if you are after a little midrange that will fit anywhere with great freq response and power handling

here's some pics of my spares next to a cdm54 (4" midrange) $1 $2 and CD

Legatia's are 4ohm
handle 50 w rms with no crossover
200 w rms with crossover
129 hz - 10khz

If the other drivers proclass is talking about require a 7 litre enclosure that is basically playing them in an IB config considering how small they are.

The legatias are designed in the same way; to work well in IB without an enclosure as such, just seal up that backwave and they play very well.

I was playing them down around 150 hz and the excursion is quite surprising for such a little driver.

Plans to use the spare pair for an mtm setup in the kicks if I get the time.

How do they compare to the CDM54 for SQ & bandwidth. Obviously no contest with the 54's power handling ability.

very nicely. Down low there is no contest the cones kick butt. The cdm54s never had enough low end extension to keep the lower vocals away from my midbasses. (major reason for upgrading)

At the moment they are installed vented IB into the A-pillar/Kick panels.

Still playing around with it all, initially tried them out highpassed from 160 hz up with my supremo at 10khz 12db/oct (where most people have their ambients set up) (just to see if it could sound good) and there just wasnt enough sparkle out of the cones. Dropped the tweeter down a bit lower with a 6 db slope (crazy) and it worked a treat. Luckily hp'd around 5khz.

With a shallow hp slope on the tweet and a very high cut off point it did wonders. The response is definetly there and noticeable up to around 15 khz just from the legatia but a tweeter is needed from ~6 khz up to give that sparkle and accuracy in the high end Shouldnt be a problem considering most people would run theirs from 3k up. But in terms of point sourcing you want to get as many imaging cues from the one spot (tweeter or midrange take your pick)

I ran the
mids from ~160hz 24db/oct -> 5khz 12db/oct with ~110 w rms headroom
Tweet from 5khz 6db/oct ~45 w rms headroom

for straight SQ last comp and it worked well personally I wouldn't run them right up to 10khz and beyond without a tweeter there taking care of that 7khz and up region. Unless you have a good enough EQ to iron out the problems up high, but that's not how I like to tune.

Conversely if you are planning on running some decent power into them you definetly wouldnt want them passed that low and would be looking around 400hz for serious cranking, or 200 hz for reasonable daily driving.

Nevertheless the fact that you can get so much of the imaging frequencies point sourced does wonders for staging.

Off axis response is excellent; installed flush in the kicks the stage depth is great. I wouldnt be able to fit any other speaker into that service hole without cutting/glassing the speaker out.

Chances are it will be in a new location soon till im happy with it. Time will tell
