As everyone knows, Tasmania severely lacks in specialist car audio stores.
There's Car Accessory Installs in Launceston, Hobart Car Audio and there used to be NWS HiFi.

NWS closed down at the start of the year, just when I was starting to get into the swing of things, so that left my neck of the woods (Burnie and surrounding areas) with a gaping hole.

As of 6 weeks ago, the old NWS shop has been revamped and renamed to Coastal Car Audio.
Management has been taken over by a previous employee of NWS.

They are stocking Alpine, Eclipse, Stinger accessories and the usual Aerpro bits and pieces (I think, it may just be old stock).
The store is looking a bit bare at the moment, but they assured me they'll be building up stock in the coming weeks.

I spoke to the manager, Waine Chilcott at length about various things to do with competitions and community interest. If there's enough interest in the local area, he will look into organising a few things, like rolling out a Termlab every few weeks on a Saturday night.
Waine is also heavily involved with TASASCA (Tasmanian Auto Sound Challenge Association).

I also got a few prices on some of the headunits i've been looking at, just for reference:

Eclipse CD2000 $269
Eclipse CD3000 $349
Eclipse CD4000 $499
Alpine CDE-9852 $399
Alpine CDA-9856 $469
Alpine CDA-9857 $599

I'm going to be keeping a keen eye, and ear, on the business to see how it progresses.
Should be great.

Yeomansaints already brought the company up in another thread, but I thought i'd start a new one to generate some discussion without interfering with someone elses thread :P

more than likely the latter will be the 9857 ;)

glad to see there are some audio shops up and running in tassie...

wen i was down there in burnie, and bored, i went to check out the audio section at AutoBarn (just off the highway at Cooee) and was slightly disappointed at the lack of service and knowledge of the salesman.

specialist dealers down there should go a long way i reckon!

Selfdestruktor, i suggest that you mention CAA to the owner of the store, and try to get him to frequent this website to build up a name for himself (i.e. including posting pics of installs etc etc)...

:)

Oops, must have been asleep when posting up those prices.

Fluffy, there was a comp in Launceston today, but as I mentioned in the other thread, I still haven't got my friggin' amp.
There's another in Devonport and a third in Burnie in the next few months.
Haven't heard about anything else, and there certainly wasn't anything last year. Autobarn didn't even have their little one as far as I know.

Yeah, the Autobarn in Cooee is pretty bad if you're looking for audio gear.
I was in there one time and a guy was talking to a salesman about the difference between two Kenwood headunits. He had the manuals in front of him, but his reply was "Well this one is more expensive so it must be better".
Couldn't believe it!
When the salesman went to answer the phone, I popped over and had a chat to the guy about the REAL differences (Preouts and Mp3 functionality) and convinced him to buy a different one altogether because it suited his needs better.

No point of mentioning CAA, the owner of the store is one of the main people running TASASCA and there have been heated arguments about this in the past.

As far as I know, there was an attempt to combine the two organisations, but the Tassie guys didn't want to change their competition classes in SPL (and SQ I think).
It's a bit frustrating because your scores can't really be compared to the rest of Australia.
And in SPL, as far as I know cone area is the only seperation, making walls and extra batteries legal in the 'Tas Street' classes.

If you do a bit of a search in this forum, you'll probably find a bit more info.
