Just throwing out a question... do people think it's possible to have a car that stages well on both sides while using time correction.

And to throw in another twist, using it whilst also playing with levels on each side (ie- negative gains on drivers side)

I use time correction between drivers on each side, but times are kept symmetrical between L/R. and then there's the sub....

Delta time alignment? I don't think so...

Parallel time alignment? Hmm...still depends on driver placement, but it does have an effect.

Cheers,

I find time alignment between drivers (tweeter to mid to midbass) improves depth and width of the sound stage.

also puts the sub where it belongs - 'with' the midbass, not before or after.

You can improve staging and imaging for both listeners, but it's much more difficult to achieve good imaging.

Basically you just Time align all the speakers on the left hand side to each other, then the same thing on the right hand side.

the left and right would need to be identical settings though, to achieve equal staging from either seating position. In terms of getting the ultimate stereo image. thats going to be 99% up to placement of speakers, Angles, Tuning, X/over points ect ect ect.

god it's so much easier if your just setting it up for one person though.
and you can get it so much more perfect.

it's pretty cool when you get it to the point that you can pop your finger in the singers mouth, in the centre of your dash.. (or bonnet or wateva)

So....

Say for someone with a set of splits, in a typical mid in door, tweeter on dash system, without using it to correct between mid and tweeter. Is this possible? ie- using it to stage well for the driver only. When doing this, is it also possible for the passenger side to stage well.

Couldn't be. If the stage is too right, for example, you adjust arrival times to compensate and pull the stage left. For someone in the passenger seat the stage will go from where-ever to too left.

Just go back to Am Street and concentrate on getting the sound right for the only person that matters, the driver! :D

Perhaps this is where adding a centre chanel would be of benefit

it cant be possible, physics wont let it be..basically what gordo said....maybe sit in the centre of the car, time align from there, and then each side would be equally off centre.....

speaker placement,
number of speakers,
distance of speakers relative to each listener.

its a science.
