I am in the market for new splits as my jl's are no more.

I was reading through my speaker catalog when i came accross a new set of peerless splits, they are selling twi different ranges, one for sq another the other for spl by the look of it, each with a 5" and 6" version

Here is the Higher quality version and what it says.

[Definition Series] COMPONENT SYSTEMS
High performance Midrange-Woofer 3 Ohm
Non-resonant Glass resin basket
Fibrous pulp cone doped with AG resin
Long exertion Butyl rubber surround
Anodized aluminium voice coil former
1" Textile dome neodymium tweeter
Flush mount kit & Angle mount kit
Premium multi-component crossovers 24db

6" Stereo set
165mm (146mm hole)
68mm mount depth
80Wnom 160Wmax
50Hz-22KHz

These cost around $300 with the cheaper version around the $240 mark

That is what it says for the higher grade one. With the second having steel stamped basket, mid-woofer of 4ohms, minerla filled polypropolene woofer cone, NBR ruvver surround, soft dome tweeter (not textile) and compact crossovers (not the premium one). Also they are rated at 100watt rms 200watt max with frequency range of 40Hz-20KHz

I was going to order a set of these tomorrow just wanting to know peoples ideas?
Firstly i don't care about the crossover as i'll have mine setup with an active crossover. I need a 6.5" to fit my current door card modifications. the definition series costs me about $60 more than the resolution series.

Please tell me people what you think

I know that peerless is a high quality companyh from denmark, what i'm really interested in these splits are there mid woofers. I'm looking at buying 2 sets, so once i'v given mine a run in, in stalled dynamat extreme i will be able to give anyone in brisbane a demo if they are interested in a set. (not limited to selling to brisbanites though) anyone can get a set off me if they like. I have a mate who wants a set of them already (without listening to them even, goes to show his trust in the danish company)

If i dont' like the tweeter i will match it up with my dynaudio md100's Cheers

Blackfox have you tried these yet? If so what are your impressions, particularly when used as supplied with the passive crossovers?

Has anyone else heard any Peerless component sets?

My home speakers (LSK kit speakers, F5 mkII floorstanders) have Peerless woofers and Vifa tweeters, and I'm seriously impressed by their sound, so I'm keen to know how their car audio variants go.

I purchased the higher quality definition series which i believe is higher SQ. I have them installed in a mitsubishi magna on mdf straight to the chassis of the door. It gives out excellent mid bass (contrary to a lot of belief about peerless woofers). I havn't even covered the service ports or used sound deadening. I am almost considering not doing it, my door resonates a bit so thats the only reason i might need to do it.

The tweeters are very easy to install, they are acurate and crisp without being to forward or harsh. I have mine mounted in the kick panels and are excellent on and off axis.

Being a 3ohm mid bass driver and a 4 ohm tweeter some adjustments have to be made in tuning but this is normal (sensitivity of both are 98db at 1w/0.5m or 96dB 1W/1M)

I owned JL VR600-CSI splits before these which i bought for $380 new. I would say these are much better, cleaner more accurate and handle a higher power input flawlessly. I would say these are one of the best splits sub $400 bracket)

I firstly tried the passive crossover with some tuning to see how they went. And i was quite happy.

Then i tried it in active and i think that the tweeter couldn't handle enough power (around 40watt rms) so i upgraded and used the dynaudio MD100 just because i had one not because it was really neccessary. Its a different sound and i think i might be putting the peerless ones back in as i like a more clean and crisp rather than mellow sound, well thats my opinion anyways
