The main problem at the moment is a location. We talked about a few places but they all have thier pros and cons.
Short list includes
Autobahn
Show Grounds
Hidden Valley
China Town
Cas Carpark outside cinema
We need somewhere that has power, preferably a bit of shade, will attract bypassers and won't cause people to get pissed off. Any ideas guys?
Cheers

Have you considrerd an indoor location with aircon? its generally a bit too hot to go doing burps in the sun in the middle of the day, i broke my sub last time because heat made my amp run funny and started clipping my sub... bye bye S12L7
Only problem with that i can see is pricing.
But just somewhere with lotss of shaded areas and a good afternoon breeze should work welll too, esp if its held late arvo.
Im liking the idea of the botanical gardens atm.
Also Mindil beach where the markets are held wouldnt be bad cause theres heaps of power terminals there for the markets...

just not sure how many people to expect (hopefully ~30) all depends on how well i manage to promote it i guess. But yeh if we get a fair few people and we start late afternoon i don't want to be still doing stuff when it gets dark 6:30-7ish.
Freddy suggested foskeys pavilion in the showgrounds but then there is the issue of exhaust fumes etc. So we thought it would be best if we just went somewhere shaddy and not worry about the aircon/enclosed space.
yeh mindil would be excellent for power and shade and a bit of a breeze. lol do you know who i would have to contact about using that place.

failing that ill ask around i you want me to?
Just quetly if people were only allowed to run their engines only when they are DB burping then it will take ages to fill the room with exhaust fumes...
I think if the rental price is right then foskeys sounds like a great place for a sound off...
Just a thought have you considered making it into a full blown show and shine type deal? if more cars enter for various things (such as a show and shine or dyno comp) then it would help offset the costs for hiring such a big place...
The last big car show was outdoors in the sun, the amount of people who would of went if it was indoors and aircon instead was a pretty big contingent... might be a profit in a decently run car show...
Big profits means big capitals tho, depends how big you really want it to be i suppose...

Now if Lindsay thinks he get -30 odd so people and held the sound off on the weekend we could like have about 100 or so people attending the event. This could benifit in 2 folds;
1. Sponsers! I think the cost would really be minimal, maybe some equipment need for the comps, erect some shades/tents, etc. but I think sponser would gladly join up because will not only get alot of explosure and but might promote car auio aswell and could be a totally free event with prizes!!
2. Promote not only sound off comps but car audio aswell and as it gets more popular with more cars and people getting together it could be held in better places, promoted better and held professionally.
If we held it somewhere inside like Foskey this would cost, sure we could get sponsers but only if it's worth there while. I mean are they going to join up when only 30 or odd so people come? Sure could make it and show and shine but boy you opening a whole other can of worms. I mean think about it, whose going to organize that and the sound off.
Don't get me wrong I'm all into show and shine or dyno comp(I think we really have only one dyno up here in Darwin, anyway) if we can pull it off sucessfully but NT is not really getting into car audio as in the others states and Leanyer Park(or think up somewhere else is better until then) would be a good place to start off. It minimal cost, large exposure and good car audio promotion. Having a show and shine or some other event with a sound off wouldn't really promote car audio as well as having by itself especaially if we're just trying to start it off.
Mindal beach and Botanic gardens are good places but you wanted or like places that will attract bypassers, you be suprise at how many bypassers it will attract not only in cars but how many people ride their bikes and jog/walk by the park. I don't think Mindal or the Gardens will attract as much as the park and oh yes, there in town as the park is in the suburbs so another point think about is location. I mean think about it, what is more appealing, going to a place that is quiet fair drive, a risk that you have to pay for to get in and see or go to place the relatively short distant to most people, free and can going without the only intention of seeing a car audio event show? Hmm...because people are going there anyway, the sound off comp would be a bonus to them.
I might swing by the park today or tomorrow to have a look myself. Been there but nerver really really look at the place to see if a comp can really be held there.....hmmmm.
Peace out.

it has that cool little stage there where we could do the presentations and things and it will attract many people. Can easily sign post the enterance so people driving by know whats going on and it would probably be easier to get permission from parks and wildlife than it would be from DCC.
But mindil has heaps of shade and heaps of powerpoints for people to charge there batteries etc during rounds! I will swing by mindil probably on the weekend and properly check it out.
The only problem that i can think of about having it at either of these venues is public liability? Should we worry about it?
