btw trism you owe me a beer
pulse-r i've got those vifa tweets as well, they absolutley crap all over the type x tweets even though they are supposed to be the same??!! any ideas as to why this could be?
also mine are up on the dash should i be worried about uv damage, the maerial around the phase plug does seem to be very thin and easy to damage.
lol also whats the lowest you've crossed them over for moderatley loud listening, mine are at 2.2Khz atm but i think they would be fine maybe down to 1.8Khz 24db/oct?

Next time you're in Melby, I'll buy you a drink.
The vifa's should be ok for a few years on the dash, but wouldn't hurt to put a speaker cloth over them - the phase plug would act as a tent pole.
as for why they're not the same as the Type-X... well.... magnet is the first thing, then there's the diameter of the voice coil, the diaphragm and the dispersion plate - all factors in electro-acoustics.
I have crossed mine at 800Hz - they didn't like that, but midrange staging was phenomenal. 1.6k - better sound, but still losing it at the bottom end. 1.8k nice, but still a bit dirty at higher volume levels. 2.2k - just nice (all at 24dB/oct 75WRMS amplifier). 2.8k at 12dB/oct is good too, but you need good mids for that.
