Ok ok, I do agree with what you say that, each person has different tastes, and one speaker may suit them over another speaker. The problem is, not all speakers are easily accessible for demo. There is however, a hell of a lot to choose from and your best bet would be going to several local specialist dealers and asking them for a demo of gear within your price range.

Also try to listen to a few cars, Fury and Damo95 got to hear a big difference between the 165K2P's in a car and a board!

A few speakers I have heard and spent some time with.

Dynaudio 240's $999

Reasonably nice overall, lacklustre tweeter doesn't seem to handle high volumes well.
good midrange, good midbass. Tweeter lacks extension. Very easy to listen to speakers.
but pretty plain overall. Very Popular Set since they generally need little EQ can be used
without processors.

Rainbow Profi Kicks ($900 I think)

Strong Midbass, smooth soft sounding tweeter but lacks extension, lacks detail, midrange freqs are boosted
making it sound unnatural. Would be nice with some EQ. Again awesome midbass response to about 70hz,
must be used with a subwoofer.

---------------------------------------------------------------

The below I have spent Alot of time with.

Alpine DD Linear Flagships $1299 RRP

Strong Midbass, excellent midrange linearity, Tweeter has high sensitivity, so it's particulary loud,
crossover offers up to -9db attenuation, still not quite enough for high mounting the tweeter,
however overall, the tweeter sounds very detailed, excellent extension and strong vibrant sound.
May work even better run actively. Works well with 80W-200W. Little EQ Required, (unless you mount the tweeters high, you may need to EQ them a bit)

Focal K2p $849

Excellently smooth and awesome midrange detail, tweeter can be bright, but with a little EQ it is outstanding,
excellent extension, authority and strength, awesome detail, Midbass lacks depth below about 90hz,
Has strong punch above 90hz, but overall warmth in low freqs can be hard to find unless serious door sealing and deadening is done. Really should be used with the KBE/K3p add on midbass, (which is very warm and extends below 50hz easily) K2p Must be used with a subwoofer if you don't add on the K3p.
Awesome Power handling will soak up 200-300W easily. Midrange Equalization is helpful. Crossover has excellent adjustment and quality., generally sound better Passive than active.
