First let me introduce myself on here. I drive a ridiculously small little car, the Daihatsu Copen 660cc Turbo - and before you mock it, it is absolutely awesome. It drives like a luxury go-kart. I should know, I have driven some of the fastest and best cars out there (including the Diablos and Esprits) and also own a modded 3000GT Twin Turbo. Anyway, I digress.
I have sitting on the floor several bits ready for installation including
Genesis SA30 Amp to drive components
Genesis SM60 Amp to drive subs
Focal 5WS x2 Subs
Kenwood PSR71S Components
Dension DH101 Head Unit
You guys may or may not know the equipment listed above, but it's all pretty good A grade stuff. The amps are from an award winning Genesis show car in the UK - handmade by the Genesis guru himself in a special blue aluminium. The component speakers are awesome, with a clear soundstage (but may be too bright for the little copen if not placed correctly). The subs as you guys know are also awesome but need careful boxing and placement. The headunit you probably haven't heard of. It's a pure harddrive (currently 80Gb)single din unit receiver which uses a std laptop IDE hard drive in a caddy that you can connect to the PC. It doesn't have a CD or anything else like that, just a pure hard drive MP3 player and radio. The sound quality is excellent and it has 2 sets of pre-outs, perfect for my situation.
The challenge is this. I need to place the speakers correctly in the car to get the best sound quality. I'm not a high volumen junkie, just a true audiophile with a small soundstage!
I was thinking of using the existing door locations for the main components, and maybe setting the tweeters off just behind or in front of those. I was also thinking of placing the subs in the centre console under the dash firing one to the left footwell and one to the right footwell - but angled towards the driver! Alternatively they could be placed behind the seats, but I'm pretty sure I won't be getting 2-3Litres of enclosures back there!
For those of you who don't know, the copen is the middle one in the cars below

So, what do you guys reckon, or recommend a better solution?? Also, where do I place the Amps ... I don't really want them in the boot as its pretty small when the roof is off. Also, where do I get dynamat at a reasonable price in Sydney. I don't want to have everything vibrating all over the place. Remember my focus is on Sound Quality, so its pretty important to ge the placement of all the bits right!
Cheers
Andre
