Im upgrading my system from the 2x220w pioneer 6" / 2x110w pioneer 4" and 2x150wrms kicker subs that i have right now in my 1991 mazda mx6.

I've been looking at both alpine x series and pioneer premier series. I've no idea how to decide which is better quality and i'd like some input from anyone who has the time.

I also want to know whether or not its a good idea to put component speakers at the front and back of my car or whether i should just put regular 6" at the back..

Any help would be much appreciated

just put coaxs n teh back, and 6.5" splits at teh front.

in regards to whats better, you need to listen to them, with your music,m and decide what you like the best....

we cant tell you the *better* one, coz everyone has different ideas, and different tastes in teh way speakers sound.

In the past I'd say Alpine has the edge over Pioneer but don't know about new models but then is there any reason not to consider other brands? For instance look at other members signatures, eg - Boston Polk Focal

Another thing to consider is to only upgrade the front components, that way you get something really good for the same money as upgrading the lot. Different speakers are good for different styles of music and out of Boston - Polk - Focal I'd suggest Boston Pro 60's (RRP about $1000)

You can get the other brands for around the Alpine/Pioneer pricerange but I think they'd be on a par in sound quality. Focal K2P's are about $780 but their strength is in fantastic midrange detail whereas the Boston Pro 60's are a good "all-rounder"

It all depends on what your goals are and how much you want to spend to get there. I have Focal K2Ps plus the Bass Extension Kit (165 KBE) which all up cost about $1400 and they sound great!

cheers
