Have you actually heard or used it?

Yeah, its a good price, and certainly cheaper then the P90RS, but Ive found its an individual taste. I know a few people who have the HXD2, and its certainly an individual sound. Not my cuppa for sure.

Its also a B!tch to use properly. Ive found for a high-end unit, they could have made it a lot easier to set everything up. Looks beautiful though.

Yeah, I have used it before, I got one in my Triumph lol

Just from listening to the HX-D2 in my triumph i like the sound of it. for sure it wouldn't be everyones cup of tea, because we all have different ears. it puts a huge smile on my face when i use the one in my triumph.

I agree with you that it is a little hard to set up but once you get used to the menu it gets easier. and all good things take time, and any of the settings you need to change when your driving round are right at your finger tip.

Can you describe that individual sound?

My experience is the HX-D2 has high clarity which can tend to sound 'bright' Is that what you would say?

I would say bright, yeah, but more 'clinical'.

Personally, I love my Pioneer P90 because it produces a warmth to the music. It conveys feeling and emotion that I find lacking on the HXD2. The HXD2 is accurate, but its soundstage seems too open and its reproduction too clinical. Its only my opinion though, and not everyone likes my tastes for sure :P (Chris deBurgh anyone?? :D)

If you can use its settings fairly well, and you like the sound, why wouldnt you buy it? Its a steal at that price.

Yes I would agree with 'clinical'. And opinions are always good to hear, sometimes I think its what matters most.

I started off with a low end Pioneer and then got the Alpine for its 3 preouts. Even though the Alpine sounds way better, there's still something I liked about the Pioneer. With the Alpine you can hear each separate instrument more clearly but its too warm and at times sounds 'muddy'

So that's a P90 in your car? I wasn't sure, I thought it might have been a P80RS. But yeah I think if I had the cashish the P90 would also be for me. I would have bought a P80 but the HX-D2 has those 4 preouts which is hard to pass by when you want a 3-way active front stage.

cheers

Hey POwerband, i wouldn't say rubbin it in just extactic i could get that unit somewhere local and the australian version for that cheap, i guess it is rubbin it in a bit but ohh well im happy :D

also just from reading your sig looks like you got some good gear there too, very nice.

I also put R2-D2 in my car this arvo and at it has made the sound quality in my car jump heaps. now all i need is to get a nice amp to power splits in my pulsar and put the rest in. but i can't wait it is goin gto sound awsome i think.

cheers, Grant

Does the HX-D2 do EQ per channel? Seperate right and left. Not just high, mid, low, lower...

Yes it has separate EQ for L & R but not for High-Mid-Low-Sub

Thanks a lot to Darkness for giving us the heads-up on this great deal. I was in the market for one and he helped me out with the store name and the generous offer to help send it to me (Sydney) if they wouldn't.

I've ordered and should have it Monday :). Can't wait ;)

Just got myself a HX-D2 as well :)

Was going to put it into the car today, but I'll have to resist the urge and read the instructions abit better first to get an idea of what to do with the DC/DC Converter.

I think one great thing about the Clarion is that all of the features are built right into the unit, so no seperate processor is necessary.

If there is a downside it's that the deck doesn't play back MP3 or DVD which means plenty of CD switching on the occasional long drive, but it's a sacrifice I can defiantely live with. Will try to locate a Clarion DVD Stacker to solve this issue if they are still available in Aus.

I have to say it has to be (in my own opinion) the sexiest source unit around. It has the simple and functional look (of say, a CD-7000) but the shadow chrome finish adds just the right amount of class.

Reading through the manual it should (hopefully) not be too hard to use - I'm an I.T. guy so I usually catch onto electro-toys pretty quickly.

Nice one Muzzy, I'm with you on the single-CD thing. Having had stackers with my last two stereos I think I may need to resort to another one. I'm not sure what the implications on sound are over the head-unit's CD...

The "it" guys ;), hehe...

Darkness, I've just realised how keen I am... I've been re-reading this two page article from Incar magazine every day for the last month... I even read the downloadable usage and installation manuals for the unit, I think I need help.

Anyway, looking forward to returning to enjoyable sound after 2 years of "factory" sound :)

This is a great idea but I've looked into it already and I don't think you can get them in Australia. Once I've got my amps sorted out I'll look into it further.

didn't really care when i got my hxd2 that it didn't play mp3's , as i prefer the better sound of proper recordings , but after running a pioneer avhp5750dvd screen in the work demo car , I wish the hxd2 had mp3 playback - just for the long trips (I'm too lazy to change discs )
