Typo - Should be Audio FX Camberwell

Not all things in the car audio industry are created equal...
Especially equipment and installers.

A bad installer won't blame his tools or his skill, he'll blame the equipment!

I've tried Audio FX Camberwell - went there twice - even rang and told them i was coming - only to be very disappointed. I rang tell them i wanted to hear the sub and speakers, and later in the afternoon dropped in. They didn't have them installed properly or wired properly - so it was a waste of time.

The Sales person had no clues what he was talking about saying that Pioneer was better than Eclipse, and Alpines etc etc.

No idea on specs, no clues on many things. Especially installation in my car.

As I am very particular about quality, this didn't give me any confidence in the work they would do. So i have gone with a Rockford based system, but I feel confident that my car will come out in one piece.

Update - it's going in tomorrow for Eclipse CD7100, RF P450.4 and 8" Focal V2 Sub

Maybe I'll upgrade to the audisons at a later stage, or put them in my other car.

It just goes to show that your products are only as good as the people selling/iinstalling them.

i think you've made the right choice. in the end, the system will only sound as good as the installation quality. given RF and audison amps can be excellent, i don't think you've lost anything significant choosing RF over audison. for those that think audison are clearly superior, then i think it's better to have a 'lesser' amp and its system installed and tuned properly than to have a 'better' amp and its system installed poorly.

I tried out some of the Rockford Power series amps in my car for a few weeks,

thinking of replacing my Soundstream Van Goghs, with something more recent.

however the rockfords had more distortion, more noise, less clarity and didn't seem to play as dynamically, they seemed to reach there powers end and dig into the distortion much easier and quicker than my soundstreams.

Addmitedly the soundstreams are A/B Class and reference level, where the rockfords are BD Class and supposedly high end.

I found the Rockford powers to be very rough and unclear compared to my soundstreams with the same power rating. The rockfords controlled the speakers very well, but just didn't have the audio cleanliness I've come to appreciate with my soundstream Van goghs.

as for if the rockfords are better than Audison, I believe if you buy the top end audisons these will be better "sounding" amplifiers than the rockfords. however if you go down the ranks there may not be much in it.

Although the amp comparisons I made where equal power ratings, the soundstreams are rated at 13.8V 0.02% THD where the Rockfords are 14.4V 1% THD.

I'll be hanging onto my soundstreams I think...

This being said, I am fond of the rockford product, it works, sounds great, and it's cheapish.
Just not for my car..

might have something to do with the output devices. FETs sound very different to BJT output devices. FETs generally have a more mellow, warm, fuzzy relaxed sound to them , where as the BJTs tend to sound more crisp and dynamic. To me ive found a FET output device to sit inbetween tube/valve output devices and BJT (transistor) output devices in terms of sound.

still might be total bullcrap, but thats how i feel about these output devices. Then there is class d or its derivatives, they just sound totally horrible (unless you want to use them for your sub).

There is a difference, Audison made some years ago two identical amps HV TRENTA using the differnt outputs and they them selves said that it was a decision for the consumer, both had merit but which was better was subjective.
