Ok so i got a budget of $6200 what that has got to cover is sound deadening, Splits, Amp to run the splits

so if i put away $400-$450 for a dynamat extreme bulk kit, some Plain chant and maybe some dynamat extreme liner, i would have about $5750 left for the splits and amp, what they are going into is a VZ SS Holden Thunder ute, and i listen to most music, Rock, Top 40's, Techno, some blues and the odd bit of classical if im in the ood but it doesn't happen much lol, ohh and a bit of rap, and pop as well. so a good varity there.

Now i have a HX-D2 i am going to use or i may be doing a swap with a P90 combo so 3 way active is not a problem.

What i would like is some recomendations from you guys on what you think would be a good SQ setup for the splits and amps.

I have been looking into Focal Utopia Be, Oz audio Matrix elite and some PPI splits that are suposed to be pretty good i think they are like A/D/S or something but im not sure so if any can clarify that for me would be great.

Now i have one more constraint it is that i am paying through part of my lease for the ute and it has been organised to get it form my old work place Rod meagher Radio, an ADN on here which is allright cause he gives me good prices anyway. so i am limited to what they sell, which is pretty much PPI,Clarion,Focal,OZ audio, TREO, Blaupunkt, Earthquake, Cadence, and probably a couple more but i have forgotten ohh JVC

so what do you guys reccomend? also what do you's think about the OZ audio ME Splits? compared to some focals

Cheers, Grant

Personally I would choose the focals but your best bet would be to pay a visit to a store that provides higher end gear and have a listen to some speakers and choose whats sounds best to you. Try Drew at Northfield Moorooka. Other options to consider would be Dynaudio, Morel, Hertz, MB Quartz, Alpine F1's....the list goes on and on.

As for amplifiers the list is also pretty hefty, but as a guide look at Alpine, ARC Audio, TRU Technology, Focal, or Eclipse for some higher quality amps.
Alpine CDA-9833
Alpine DDLinear DLC-176A
Alpine Type-R SWR-1222D
Alpine MRV-F345
Kicker KX300.4

if they stock PPI, then you should be able to get everything in the directed camp, which is a/d/s, ppi, orion and directed.

and find out if he will deal with another store/distributor to get in other items that he doesnt stock. Then your options become much bigger.

out of what he stocks...id go :
a/d/s, focal or OZ splits
and probably focal amps

I installed and tuned (waiting for him to run it in 20 hours now before i tune again) a set of a/d/s/ 346is splits for my friends car, but so far the characteristics would be the accentuated midrange and a fairly bright sounding tweeter.
The a/d/s/ tweeter is detailed and bright in the highs but not as much as the typical focals, how it compares to the focal utopia be's is another story.

If the store your going to stocks the brands of Oz audio, focal utopia, a/d/s/, try to organise a demo if you can. I wouldn't want to be putting that sort of money down on speakers i've never heard personally and only heard through way of mouth.

Amps there are alot of choices. I personally love the the look and sound of Tru Technology. But ARC audio, Sinfoni, DLS, Focal, Butler and U-Dimension are also amps that should be noted.

if ur limisted to those brands u listed, i would think the oz me or focal utopias for the splits would do u fine (although there is quite a price diff between the two), as for amps i dont think u could go past the focals really.

you could try the oz me splits with a treo 8" for an active 3-way front stage - would give u plenty of kick me thinks

what do you recon about your OZ audio ME's spyne? how would they compare to the focals not considering the price.

and would you go the oz me's and treo sub's or the focal utopia kit 7 active? i will probably power them with a 2.150 and 4.75 focal amps if i go that way.

Id love to get the full kit 7 and the DM but i think it is a bit much for me on my current salary and bills.

cheers, Grant

if u thinking about competing you would be wise to select splits with wide range tweets, thats what i would look at, also midrange to midbass if your going 2 way, some dont handle awesome midbass and vocal niceness at the same time..........cors

Well Oz have just revamped there ME lineup and have included a 3 way system so I'd hang out for these, there not on the site yet but here is some links to info about them. Oh and and why not match them to some OZ amps.

I'd spend more on SD though maybe 2 bulk packs and line the interior with ensolite from ramm audio.

if your in sydney come and listen to my setup.. Hertz Mille 2 ways ( worth around $2000) Running off a Zapco 750.2. Im only selling them because i want the 3 ways with the Ribbon midrange. If no one buys them then ill end up picking up the ribbon midrange and crossover. Im very happy with the sound at the moment, people may ask why im changing it, simple, because i want to and im able to :)

for the $ you should be able to get a No6 or No7 kit with crossblock 4ch amp sub and maybe a DM as well.

start looking around

but I'd start with the No7 Be's with crossblock if it were me.

Personally I would be looking at some Image Dynamics horns and some Dynaudio midbass or just some Dynaudio 3 ways (tweeter mid and 8 inch) with True Tech amps to run them and a DD9100 series or Treo woofer or something similar depending on what sort of subwoofer enclosures you want to build.

Maybe even 4 8 inch Rockford P3 woofers would be an option for you, depending on what sort of space you can afford to give up.
