I'm rethinking my amplifiers...

Not only do the DD waiting times annoy the hell out of me, ive realised i really dont need 3kwrms...i love the C4a, but i cant justify the cost a Z1 at this point in time...

so im looking for a 4channel for fronts, mono for sub, stable to 1ohm..

budget around 2k.... id like matching amps.....

so far im looking at:
Audison LRx *
Eclipse XA4000 for front, ?? for sub
Audiosystem *
Alpine PDX *
possibly Focal... *

(*means ive heard them..)

any other suggestions??

im open to 2nd hand as well...

JL 'slash' series? I do believe there are some 1000/1, 500/1, and perhaps a 300/4 in the second hand area

DLS Reference amps?
Oz Audio amps?

I havn't heard any of these, but they are from brands with a decent SQ rep

If you were quick, there was a PDX4.150 going for an insanely cheap price, I was tempted to buy it just to run both bridged, 1 for the left side, 1 for the right, that was how good the price of it was. But there are a number of decent amps around in the price range your lookin at, just gotta figure which looks better to you :P

lol...

the pdx are winning, due to size...i have no room, due to the huge box, and c4a...

when i have some pdxs, stacked up, and a smaller box...ill have more room...which is good

Personally, Id take Audiosystem over PDX.

Audiosystem, Focal, Eclipse... thats very close to my own short list (not in that order).

As you know, its all personal, see if you cant borrow / try-before-buy these amps. Or at the very least hear them in other cars. Its the only way to find out.

The Eclipse is very nice, but an acquired taste. A lot of SQ purists dont like it, maybe because its a bit warm sounding?

Its getting more and more popular in CAAVIC - Im the latest sheep to have bought one.

I think it sounds awesome, running my Dyns active. And Al (Sierra) is winning just about everything he enters running passive.

So I guess it depends on whether you want to be a sheep (not having a dig) and get something you know has proven or spend all your damn time tuning the hell out of the different/unproven gear to get it sounding as good as the proven stuff

For sheer size I would go PDX, nothing like having tiny little amps and being able to mount them in unusual or in tight spaces.

I like the sound of Audison amps tho, very nice.

But in your instance, go the PDX, something different, and maybe prove some people wrong about Alpine amps, ie/ like you wanted to for your DD amps.
