Hi everyone,

Currently I am running 3 alpine amps (1 x Mono, 2 x 2 Channel) in my system, but I have been hit by the performance bug and wish to down grade my system to either a single 3 or 4 channel amp... Mainly to make the car lighter.

My system consists of Headunit (Either Carputer/ Alpine which has optical out so I can run it with the alpine Processor) Boston Pro6.5s and a single 12" MB Quart Premium subwoofer

I looking for an amp which will be based more on SQ then just pure grunt... Thus posting in this section and if possible not a big footprint.

My budget is around $800 - $1000 but could extend out a bit more if needed :)

Let me know what yous can come up with.

Thanx in advance

I was looking at them, they look like a very nice amp with a nice amount a power, but at the same time they do seem to be quiet a big amp...

I have also been advised by Marty for a DLS 'Ultimate' A5 (rrp: 1499)

The Audison out of the 2, I believe will look better in the install next to my MB Sub...

have you considered keeping what you have and spending the $800 on go fast bits? changing from 2x2 channel amps to 1x4 channel amp will not be a substantial weight saving.

The Audison 4.1k is the one I'd be going for. Good grunt and good quality, hard to beat really.

Falc, I have 2 x Alpine T420 (2 Channel) and the massive (in size) Alpine Mrd1000 (Mono Block)

So going from 3 decent size/weighted amps to one (smaller sized) will drop a little bit of weight, plus less material will be needed to install and will make the install easier...

With the mods done to my car performace wise $800 will not make a huge difference in my power output... unless I put a NOS kit in :P

Alpine PDX 4.150

Audison. somthing in the Lrx series.

Audiosystem F4 380 (800rrp) awesome amp. i have one and love it.

DD C4a. (good gutsy amp. but not sure about how good it is for SQ)

XA4000 eclipse

i actually did a thread similar to this looking at 4 channel amps(its just hard when your looking for "4 channel SQ amp" when all it will search for is "channel amp". tho i was looking for somthing approx 400 2nd hand so that is amps from 500-800ish.

JL 300/4 these are about a grand new.

Alpine MRV-545 like the DD C4a this amp has more pwoerful rear channels perfect for running a sub.

To add to the equation, the amp need to be 2ohm stable when bridged

Looks like the audio system is out of the picture, such a nice looking amp too :(

you wont find many 2ohm stable when bridged 4ch amps mate. run the sub @8ohm........this is normally enough for SQ. the JL states 75wrmsx4 @1.5-4ohm load. this means 3ohm stable when bridged.....

Focal FP 75.4 is another to look at. sexy as, all black.

not sure if Arc or Zapco offer anything sub 1k but they would be worth looking at.

F4 600 is a monster amp. its 550mm long 220 high and 50deep the F4-260 and 380 are in a much more compact 320x220x50 housing.

the 380 will still put out 95wrms x4 or 290wrmsx2 so 95 for each speaker if its dual 4 subby still around 200wrms... @8ohm

F4 600 specs are as follows.
145wrmsx4@4ohm
460wrmsx2@4ohm

Poisoner, I understand that it is going to be hard to find a multi channel amp that is stable at 2ohm when bridged but there are a few around...

I love the look of the focal.... would like to see on in real life.

In terms of power for the speakers the bostons are 3ohm woofers which means they let that little bit extra power :)

As for budget, dont be scared to recommend anything above $1000... even upto $1500 :D

have you looked at the Eclipse XA4000?

4x125wrms or 2x350wrms (which works out to be 2x125 + 1x350)
i am using 2 of these in my car, and i know alan (sierra) is using 1 for his whole setup (2 way passive front + sub) and sounds unreal! clean power, and not too expensive either..
