Hey Guys,

I Got my new Ute yesterday and decided to go with the full Focal Kit 7 Be, now i have to decide with the subs and amp,

what i was thinking was 2 x 27v1's, and run the Be's and the 27v1's off a FP5.500

my question is do you guys think that the sub channel on the 5.500 (300wrms @ 2ohms) will be enough power to run the 2 27v1's?

also the dealer i was talking to said that running the two subs so 4 + 4 ohms for 2 ohms to the amp (which is right, but he also said that the subs would see 300wrms each when running at 2 ohms, this is wrong isn't it, they would only see 150wrms each wouldn't they.

the subs are rated at 250wrms and are single 4ohm

cheers, Grant

yes, the subs would be seeing 150wrms each..
not sure how they'd sound being underpowered but a little more than rated goes a long way.. plus they arent as efficient as the larger diameter V1's..
imo, its hard for me to say..

get the 1.800 m ate..

when you load all the channels on a 5 chan down, it puts enourmess strain on the power supply, and the output may suffer...

if i used the 5.500, id probably bi-amp the utopias. so it wouldn't be loading it down too much but yeah probably will go the 800

bi ampiing would involve using all 4 channels for speakers at 4 ohm, aand 2 ohm for the sub,
all channels loaded means fk all power

Why not get a 4ch for the splits, and bridge the 2ch for the sub(s)?

seeing you've already got the FP2.150, i'd use that for the utopia's run passive.. c'mon, focal make good crossovers that work, use them..
and get the FP1.800 for the sub(s)..

Great idea if i had the money to afford both those amps at the minute.

And also how would i explain to someone that if you hooked up two of the 27v1's (4ohm SVC) in parrallel to the sub channel on the FP5.500 (rated 300wrms @ 2ohms) that each sub would only get 150wrms not 300wrms each?. and in technical terms too. if possible like calculations. and stuff

the amp puts out a total of 300wrms, so if there is two subs the power is divided in half, so each subs see 150wrms

yeah very true, But does anyone know how to scientifically prove it so i can show them, like using ohms law or somehting like that.

just so i can proove im right, :D

300 watts into 2 ohms = 24.5 volts [P=IV, I=V/R :: P=V^2/R]

24.5 x 24.5 / 2 = 600/2 = 300

since the subs are in parallel, they each get 1/2 the current, and therefore 1/2 the power (same voltage applied at the terminals, into 4 ohms.. P = V^2/R = 24.5x24.5 / 4 = 600/4 = 150)
