Hi - not sure if is the right forum for this question, sorry if its not - im not chasing absolute doof-doof loudness, but hopefully a resonable sounding setup at lower volumes. music listened - world music (peter gabriel real world groups, 80 pop stuff - New order, depeche mode, some industrial)

Couple of questions for a pending installation into a 02 mazda 323 sp20 hatch budget is limited at the moment - so im going to be putting a set of 5x7 in the front doors , leaving the stock 5.25 in the rear doors and driving both from a head unit.

head unit will be either a

orhttp://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/p...?model=CDA-9883

I'm just scratching my head abit over speakers

i could get reasonable 2 ways coaxials like

or the
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...?model=SPR-57C

tho both of these at 87db efficency , might be abit insensitive for running them from a deck (16-18w rms)

so ive also looked at these which are 92db efficient http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/p...?model=SPS-57C2

or at a pinch these (90db), tho im a bit dubious of cheap 3 ways

again any suggestions or help would be appreciated

thanks dave

Can you not fit an amp into your car? An amp is useful for clarity not just loudness.

Also have a look at putting splits into your car.

fusion make excellent 5x7 2ways, with good efficiency for the power of a headunit (15-20w rms, dont believe what it says on the front, if they really did put out 50w per channel then we would need to run a 10 gauge wire straight to the battery just to run it)
they are fusion encounter series 5x7"s cat no. EN-FR572
- Ben..... the PIMPWAGON :) In the making since 30/12/08...

A man after my own heart - love that music!

Can't go wrong with a quality Alpine head unit.
Infinity also make some nice 5x7's etc.
The other option is to get a quality spacer and fit some semi decent 6.5" or 6.75" components in there instead.
The car:
Honda RB3 Odyssey Lux - 24 bitness and 5ch bipolar Class A/B activeness
Source/processor:
Clarion HX-D2, Cleaved iP4

Drivers:Audible Physics XR3M super wide band point source mid/tweeters, Seas Prestige L16RNSL midbasses, Infinity Perfect 10VQ sub, Fountek FR88EX wide band rears
Cables:Monster Cable XLN Pro, Monster Cable XLN S-16

The home:
Home two channel - Class A valve and ribbon goodness

Source:
Sony XA5ES (Burson discrete op amps x 6)
Amplification: Bewitch KT88 class A valve integrated
Speakers:Aurum Cantus Leisure II ribbon monitors (EXO modded, hand made ribbons) & high massed Epos stands
Cables: Kimber Kable PBJ, 4TC, 8TC

in support of schplades post, i would really recommend getting an amp just to power speakers. i own a '93 mazda 323, and i could not believe the improvement the amp made on stock speakers made (until i blew all the speakers and had to upgrade... but thats another story)

a simple 2 or 4 channel amp (depending on what speaker setup you're going to use) will make a massive improvement. like schplade said, it improves clarity, not just power/volume. its like running your car on a high octane fuel as opposed to the ethanol blended stuff. it will still work but it can do so much better if you give it the right juice
sony CDX-RA750 headunit
avalanche WSP-4100V amp running: sony 6" splits and pioneer 6x9s
audiobahn A1300HCT amp running: single 12" INFINITY 1250W
