the xa amps really are excellent - i've just changed from old skool soundstream reference amps to an xa4000
and having heard several cars with the xa1000 in them, i could certainly recoomend those too - they seem to put out more power than their specs indicate

I’m sorry I’m definitely not a fan of the PDX and I keep hearing its name in SQ forums. It’s not designed to be a SQ amp its a RAW amp made for beginners. Now let us not speak its name again!

BTW PDX 4.100 isn’t even 2Ohm stable bridged. I despise you PDX

You may like to look at the LRx 4.1k it rear is something different and has excellent SQ and features (which Audison built their reputation on) including a Subsonic filter and 24dB crossover slope on the bridged channels.

Power is rated 2 x 130 RMS + 2 x 140 RMS, what makes it a little special is that the rear channel (2 x 140 RMS) when bridged has in fact been specifically designed to be two ohm stable delivering 1 x 500 RMS @ 4 ohm and 1 x 800 RMS @ 2 ohm.they retail for $1,310 so it is just about within your budget.

They have also just been released in a Black finish which looks very stylish and would work well with your theme "Team Black"

Don't write the PDX's off without hearing them. They are a pretty nice amp, they are a little lacking in the midbass area, but I've found that since going semi active the are going pretty well.

I still don't understand what people have against the PDX's, people diss them but don't usually give a reason why.

- This isn't because I own them, but because I'm curious to know exactly what it is about the PDX's people don't like

i gathered that info of a few posts in this forum.. however there was alot of info on people supporting them. but i could not tell if this was a support as and overall product / bias opion..

i didnt psot that above comment to bag them out.. it was just the feeling i got from the guy in store... bare in mind that this so called sales man did not know anything bout the above eclipse amps.. causein him to call another guy in another store...

also do the eclipse amps have a bad distoration rate (THD)? i was told it was quite high as in like 10%.. however i could not find this info anywhere?

It wasn't aimed at a specific person, more just something I've noticed when people bag out the PDX's they don't really back it up much.

You would have to search for distortion, or THD or something, and limit it to Damon's posts, as he discussed this a few weeks back and it was a really informative post, definately worth reading again

Westside Car Audio sell Audison at all their stores, Cannington is the main branch and I guess would have the most stock / range on display.

I'd be very, very surprised if it were that high.

The old school Jaycar amps were 'only' 1% THD, and even a <$300 Audison SRx2 is well below 1%.

Some of the really good SQ manage 10% THD at extremely low volumes, so if an amp had a THD level that high I wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole..

But then again as i said...i seriously doubt the number is really that high. Maybe 1%?

from what i gathered PDX's are good but due to being a fullrange class d its not quite up to scratch compared to class a or a/b. also just saw some other post saying they have a damping factor of 63... df isnt everything but if you want SQ i doubt you could live with that...(just had a squiz at alpines site they claim 350% better damping factor than class a/b amps??)

now i can understand why some people diss PDX's, but then everyone one raves on about the eclipses
which is also a full range class d, could not find out damping factor but did notice they have 10% THD on 2ohm loads...weird at 4ohm load it had 1% and then it also had 0.05% not sure which is correct but see for yourself
http://www.eclipse-web.com.au/Site/Guest/G...e=SpecAmplifier

as to what you can get for your dollars there's some good deals on infinity and audiosystems amps at fhrx(http://www.fhrxstudios.com/) focal have a 5 channel that suits your budget and theres plenty more...best is to keep doing more research on the net and find the amps u think are blingy enough at a price within your budget. then post up your choices in a poll maybe.
