Hey there, first post here, everyone seems fairly in the know here so I thought this would be the place to ask.
Anyway, as the title says I'm looking for a new sub woofer that is particularly good (in your opinions) at playing metal. So it would need to be extremely responsive and not necessarily a heavy hitter.
What I'm looking at now would be the 2007 JL Audio 12W6v2,
that would also give you an idea of my Budget.
Thanks a lot for any suggestions.

Focal 27KX or 33KX, Hertz Mille 2500 or 3000, DLS IR12 to name a couple. These are all very accurate and follow the music well. Oh, I'd also consider the new Morel Ultimo 12.

Also consider:
* Rainbow Profi/Vanadium
* Peerless XLS/XXLS
* Eclipse 8200 (based on TC sounds designs)
Each of these is a very nice driver, and on par with those listed above.
Two other questions:
* How much power are you running to your front's, and how much are you planning on running to your rears?
* What front speakers are you using / planning on using?

I'm planning on getting either the A/d/s 346cs components or the Alpine SPR-17S. - Depends on how much the A/D/S cost when I get around to buying. And I'm getting a PDX - 4.100 to power the fronts and backs.

If you have a good amount of power available to the subs, then I can hapilly recommend something like the Eclipse 8200. These are based on (and possibly built by) TC Sounds, who are known for building some very, very nice SQ subs. The downside is they are very innefficient, so you need quite a bit of power to get them keeping up with a high power front stage. I'd recommend no less then around 500w-600w @ 4ohm (they are 4ohm SVC design).
Some other subs (like the Peerless and Rainbow) have significantly lower power handling, but have a very high sensitivity. These tend to go plenty loud enough to keep up with a powerful front stage, off minimal input power. Something like these, 200w-300w would be more then enough.
The JL W6 is by all reports a great sounding sub, but unfortuantely I can't commend on how it compares with these, as I've not heard it.
