bout 30 - 50wrms here..
QUOTE (RMA @ Feb 6 2010, 01:22 AM) My only regrets are:
Selling Fudd an amp (for a fraction of the real price) that had been returned by Autobarn Geelong which had been incorrectly used by AB Geelong and turned out to be faulty when Fudd started using it.
Whilst he was given a new amp after it could not be fixed, he never acknowledged any of the assistance given and bitches to this day about it.

I have around 450 watts running into a JL W3 V2, off an alpine MRV 1505 amp, gains at around half, headunit running at 6 from 15, blends really nicely, sub is a 300 watt RMS job, but with the extra power it just seems to have more control. If I bump the gains up to 3/4 it gets very loud, but sounds nasty and overpowers everything.
I originally had the same sub running off 250 watts RMS, and it sounded very thin, and kinda sloppy. Extra power seemed to help a lot, especially down low.

+1 on the Ultimo sub, Im certainly considering the same sub myself when I upgrade, One things for sure, It will be getting all the power I can afford!!
mmmmm.. tru tech hammer comes to mind..

As mentioned, how much you 'need' will largely depend of speaker (driver and enclosure) efficiency, also, especially in a car, factors like noise floor and dynamic range expected, cabin gain etc. Keep in mind a 3dB increase equates to a doubling of power.

I just need to find an amp (or a strappable pair) capable of 1000+ watts @ 4 ohms with a small foot print

PDX = crap for a focal sub
im using V12 monos on the 8" Treos not a chance id use a PDX on the focal. I might have to deal with 500-600 watts from an MRD-M1005 for the focal as well - the efficiency should make it loud enough...

My subs are in two separate boxes which are tuned to 23 Herts

It's interesting on here reading about people's different preferences... I think a general consensus is that an abundance of power is a good thing, and largely due to it's dynamic characteristics, eg even though you may not use 1000w RMS all the time, for a millisecond you may use it, and if it's not there it ultimately won't sound as good. And that's what SQ is all about!

I would say, for a "proper" sq setup, I wouldn't feed less than 400w RMS into a 10 or 12 inch subwoofer. And that's including the right box, the right sound deadening, large enough cabling, and proper gain structure.
