I am wanting to setup my carputer in my camry since i haven't had it running since the corolla... (which is about 12 months or more ago).

Now i have been doing a fair bit of research, and the main option for GPS for us aussies seems to be either Centrafuse or destinator "hacked" from centrafuse (which then doesn't integrate nicely, with pausing music, etc)

So it seems Centrafuse is probably the best option...

Just wondering if anyone else is running Centrafuse in aus?
What are peoples thoughts and comments on Centrafuse?

Also is there any alternative options with decent GPS nav, the rest...?

From what I saw of Centrafuse on the Infill G4 at CeBIT yesterday, it looks pretty good. It's also being constantly upgraded apparently and will call the street names out like most of the current portable GPS systems available.

question - constantly upgraded.....how specific can this be with regards to roadworks etc?...i dont know if im driving different places more or what, but there seems to be a bucketload of roadworks going on recently around here.

I used an earlier (but complete) version of CentraFuse, and honestly I didn't like it. I found it buggy.
In fact, I never found a single front end that seemed complete, glossy and finished. They all remind me of freeware programs that are never quite finished / polished.

Windows XP was the best front end for me!

i must admit, of all the carputers i had the dis-plesure of using, Marc's was the best.
was the only one that seemed to work every time.
every other one i used was buggy as hell or just didnt work at all :(

Azentek will have 4 carputers on the market for sale in August. 2 double DIN and 2 single DIN. The models are Titan CE 1100 - entry level single DIN, Venus CE 1200 - entry level double DIN, Calypso CPC 1100 - High end single DIN and Atlas CPC 1200 - High end double DIN. Both the high end units will retail for about $3500 and run Windows Vista off 2GB of RAM and Duo core processors. Not sure about the entry level models. They will all be using sensis 2008 maps.

The Infill G4 was a very robust looking unit and the GPS looked good from what I saw during the demo, it was focused on the Sydney CBD at the time though.

Ive run both A hacked version of centrafuse as well as the free versions of map monkey etc and personally i don't think they compare. I live in ballarat, about an hour out of Melbourne and do a bit of country traveling and i couldn't have faulted the 2006 maps for centrafuse. Of course theres some new roads etc that arnt shown but this fine, still gets you to where you want to go!

I am running Centrafuse 2.0 with no problems. I used map monkey before i caught on to centrafuse a few years ago, but nothing compares to centrafuse.
Centrafuse can connect to your phone via bluetooth headset for calls, it uses the Destinator for gps, manages your music playlists, it can connect to OBDII on your car for diagnostics and heaps of other things.
I purchased centrafuse last year but before it had gone on sale it was free to download and test. It did not come with any australian maps at the time. I had to find them elsewhere and they were the latest then, but destinator did not work well with the australian maps i had sourced. The maps supplied with centrafuse when i bought it were heaps better.
I personally think that the destinator gps on centrafuse seems to be better than other gps software out there. I have copilot on my phone and it is crap compared to destinator.
Anyway thats my 2 cents...

I tried CentraFuse XLE 1.2 on my home pc and worked flawlessly great little program. I "acquired it online" as i didn't want to pay for it and it end up being crap.

I use Centrafuse 2.0 with 2007 Sensis Maps, i find that 2006 maps are excellent with good POI's but 2007 is a little more accurate and a little faster than 2006 maybe because of the heavily reduced POI's.

I have been using Centrafuse since i made the car PC back in 2007 and it works great, 2.0 is definatly alot better than 1.47 because of the better GPS and video playback.

I reckon give it a go and see if you like it, Download the trial, and load up some maps available from "places" and see if you like.

Its much better than XP as a front bend mmailnly because on my 7" touchscreen, you cant really select things, and having great big buttons and a pretty easy UI is handy

I use RoadRunner (now RideRunner) with DFX4.0 skin which is customized slightly. However, I don't use my PC for GPS and stuff like that, that's what my PDA is for.

yeah i was running it in my mac mini...seemed ok..but i didnt use it as well as i should have

centrafuse is awesome. its menus/apps/nav. i wouldnt use anything else.
