Hello all

Looking at replacing my OZ ME 12" sub with a smaller lighter model, most likely 10" or dual 8"

It needs to suit a small box, eg 1cf - im over not being able to move my passenger seat the whole way back.

Ideally i want real light weight, does not really need to take a lot of power (have 500wrms @ 2ohms) but its never driven hard really.

Im thinking it will be something with a pressed basket for weight savings

So far thought about maybe an image dynamics or peerless sub

any suggestions?

Not sure if im going to sell the OZ, such a nice sub and not available anymore...would give a bigger budget though.

Seas Lotus 10" would be an excellent choice as it's nice and light, very efficient and only needs a small enclosure but with an rrp of $890 it's not cheap. Focal 27V2 falls under the $500 mark. Diamond D6 10" sub is also worth a look IMO at just over the $500 mark.

The Lotus 10" is $599 I believe.

Theres alsoo the Seas L26ROY - you can get it for $230 from madisound. Add 10% conversion rate and $50 shipping and you should have it landed here for $300 (give or take). It should be at least on par with the Lotus, only without the Lotus badging.

The latest Peerless XXLS (Black aluminium cone, model 835016) is even cheaper. It's currently $160 at Madisound - should be able to get it landed on your door step for less then $250. That's a LOT of sub for your money, and I think many would agree that it'd be VERY hard to top at that price.

Both subs will work well in a small sealed box of <20L, and both are efficient enough to get quite loud off modest power.

The Eclipse SW8000 is another worth checking out - I believe it's under $400 a tlifestyle store at the moment, and considering it's based on a TC Sounds design it's immensely capable. Last I checked I think it was happy in aroudn 20L give or take, so still falls below that '1cu ft' rule...but it has a massive motor and is far from light weight. 32mm linear xmax (one way) generally requires a beefy motor! It's also got one other small issue - it plays TOO low. Great for hifi use, but in a car with cabin gain in effect, it might be a little dominating below 40hz.

Plenty of options out there - given your needs, I'd personally suggest the Seas or XXLS. Both are relatively compact and not too heavy, both have decent sensitivity, both work in small boxes (just over 0.5 cu ft) and both should sound exceptional. The XXLS is defiantely an amazing sounding sub, but I've not yet heard the Seas - look fantastic on papr, and given Seas usually capabilities I'd have high expectations.
