I'm looking into the possibility of getting some bass blockers for my rear fill speakers. They will be running off the HU so no filters available. I think Stinger used to have them in set frequencies but no idea if they still do it. Wondering if anyone has a link to a chart that can show me the values I need to achieve a set frequency cut off, and are they just soldered in line with the speaker wires?

Yes, wire them inline (in series) with the speaker. For example, along the POS speakerwire: POS wire > filter > POS wire > POS speaker terminal

Use bipolar (non-polarised) capacitors. Using just a cap creates a simple 6dB/octave HP filter. It's probably all you need (rather than adding a coil to create a 12dB/oct xover).

You can buy caps from Jaycar. I suspect you don't need top quality, audiophile grade caps. With a 6dB/oct slope (shallow), I'd suggest having a xover frequency somewhere between 200~400Hz. Your rears are 5x7?

Here is a great calculator to work out what frequency and slope you require.

You will need non-polarized capacitors soldered in line. I'm assuming your rears are 4Ohm, if so a 200 micro farad capacitor will produce a 6dB per octave slope below 200-Hz. I wouldn't go much lower than that for rears unless you know they can handle it.

Edit: crap, should have refreshed after I came back. Beaten again by Shiny!

Awesome info guys.

So I can just ask for 2 pair's of 200 microfarad capacitors, wire one on each speaker wire (x4) and thats that? I just want to avoid running my rear coaxials full range.

Only the positive speaker wires need them.

2 x 200MF Non-Polarized capacitors will do the trick.

(+ from headunit)-----------|Capacitor|-------{Speaker}

The negative wire doesnt need to be touched.
