I was thinking about running power from the cig lighter (maybe with a fuse) to the switch and then grounding the switch.
Should this work? Otherwise does anyone have any simple suggestions ?

Wannabee Audi... :thefinger:
Well do you want some sort of in cab control or just let them do their thing ?
Should be as easy as a run of cable from the battery to the front, there's your positive, ground it near the front somewhere. Have it go through a relay that is triggered by a cable spliced off a headlight loom that should be nearby... ground the coil somewhere nearby.
Something along those lines If I'm making any sense.

If that is the case, then it may work to grab a NC (normally closed) relay, and connect the coil to the positive of your park lights, and ground. The 12v source for the DRLs should come from an ignition ON source, not ACC ideally. Then when you turn headlights on, the relay engages, turning the DRLs off. The rest of the time the DRLs just get powered through the relay. If you want manual control, put a switch after your fused connection to the ignition ON wire, and connect the other side of the switch directly to the DRLs positive, bypassing the relay.

Why overcomplicate things? Why would you want them to turn off when the headlights are on? You dont drive around with your parkers on do you? They DRL's are LED and draw SFA current, no need for a relay, just wire them parallel to the park light circuit, across the globe holder. Then they will come on with the parkers. with a fuse on the power wire if you want to be 100% safe.
if its a late model car, the parkers for left and right will generally have a seperate circuit each, so just pull the parker bulb out of one side, if its an older car, pull both out so as to avoid backfeed through the filament, then connect the clip of the test light to earth, then probe the pins in the holder and figure out which is the power feed when the test light glows when the parker switch is turned on. if youre using a multimeter to do it, black to earth, red to pins, then look for 12v with parkers on.

I "think" I've done this right. (although I havent played with relays for a while and the only diagram I have is pretty complex to work out whats going on.)
Feel free to correct my diagram if I'm wrong.
