hey guys,
im not new too wiring up subs and amps, but somethings wrong in my system atm.
heres what happened.
im trying to wire up a few monitors in my boot and i was gonna wire them up to the capacitors wiring too test if they work.
as i was doing it at night and in a bi of a rush to test them out, i wired up the + and - the wrong way around. after i blew a fuse and replaced it (in the power cable from the battery) and after trouble shoooting it for the last two nights i cannot seem to work out what the issue is.... i dont seem to have power running too the boot anymore? i wire in the cap and nothing... i wire in my amp... nothing.
is it possible to burn the wire running from the battery?
the car still works and everything, i just cannot seem to fuigre it out?
is there some real easy way to fix this?
is the capacitor completely stufed from wiring it the wrong way?

thanks for any help.
im still reasonably new to car audio, but i wanna learn. the best way to learn sometimes is trial and error..... lol

Do you have a multimeter (or even a test light) to check voltages?

I think it's simple enough. I would:
1. disconnect the cap altogether for testing purposes to rule this out as a problem
2. measure the voltage at the amplifier power terminals

If 0V, then obviously there's a power delivery problem:
*blown/faulty fuse
*bad connection: at battery, wire to fuseholder, fuse to fuseholder, at amp, groundwire to chassis

Easy enough. Once you've confirmed or fixed that power to the amp, THEN you can work on the capacitor.

Have you got a multimeter or test light, as without these basic tools it is basically impossible to test for power. A cheap multimeter is only about $10-$15 from Jaycar, d*** Smith or Supercheap. No some sparks won't kill your connection. Firstly though before you do any work on your cars electrical or stereo you should be disconnecting the battery.

So the process is.
1. disconnect battery
2. check all fuses (this includes checking across them with a multimeter not just looking at them)
3. check across all connections with a multimeter
4. repeat process 3, checking all you earth cables
5. failing this take it to a professional

Wire and terminals can burn...if they heat up enough. But a fuse should protect against that - that's the idea!

But a poor connection could be made worse in your situation.

by the time a wire of that thickness burnt through, anything around it would be well and truly on fire :)

cheap wiring kits can contain cheap fuses that actualy dont protect against anything, in rare cases.

above is the correct method for testing your system and it is highly unlikly but not impossible to have burnt the wiring, tsk tsk when stuffing around with ANY powered wire you should always disconnect the pos batt terminal while working on it ( including just a simple wire) than reconnect terminal to test.

car audio wiring blamed for 69% of all car fires since 1996. foolish moments by people when playiong with power wires and crappy install ACTUAL cause of 69% of car fires.

dont stress by that above comment, i saw a audio installer with 25 years experiance burn out a customers car with a silly mistake, still chuckle when he tried to tell the customer it wasnt his fault

get a multimeter and check check check. i just got a new one the other month for $10 but didn't have a conductivity test :( so i say spring for the $15 one lol conductivity test can really make your life easier for testing circuit boards but u don't need it, and dont bother with the $200 ones they are over kill.

just set it to DC volts and test the battery, battery earth, inspect power wire for damage, test end of power wire to body, test rear earth point if applicable, and with out looking at the set up u have i don't know what else to test with out pulling stuff apart. *note remove cap just to rule that out

lol d*** smith. i was trying to tell a seller my email who_gives_2_craps@hotmail.com *note craps = s h i t s
