For those that are unaware, Cadence are bringing out a range of new products. Some of which are being promoted as Sound Quality orientated components.

I received this week the new splits CVL-6K which are a 6.5" 2 way split arrangement to review. Here are some quick comments. The full review will be published in the next issue of CAR AUDIO magazine

Initial glances reveal a striking resemblence to the high end Dynaudio driver.

The presentation and packaging is very nice, mounted in the box and layed out on distinguishable Cadence orange material.

One interesting point is the grills don't actually match up with 4 symmetrical mounting holes on the mid bass driver. No matter how many times you index the driver, you ebd up having to use 4 unevenly spaced holes? Weird I thought.

The titanium dome 1" tweeter is supplied with brackets and housings to provide a number of different mounting options.

Even after attenuating -3 dB on the supplied passive crossover, I found the titanium dome tweeter too bright and a little harsh for my liking, with some snare drums sound unnatural and "in your face". I believe however they may be a silk dome version of this tweeter, which would more than likely address this problem.

The crossovers are well laid out and appear to use quality components, however are a little on the large side for mounting out of view.

They will happily take a load of power, and I am currently running them off the new Clif Designs CD500A amplifier which is rated at 2 x 300w RMS.

Overall, and after some initial tweaking on the parametric crossover of the head unit, they are a pleasing split system to listen to, and I would place them in the mid level to high level of the speaker market.

The CVL-6K will retail for $899.00 in Australia and is available from JB stores and selected country outlets.

Audition some for yourself when you can, and if interested read the indepth review in the next CAR AUDIO magazine issue.
