Product Info: Model Numbers: GM-X572, GM-X574, GM-X972, and GM-D500M.

These Car Amplifiers were introduced into the Australian retail marketplace in May 2003.

Defect details:
If these amplifiers are installed and operated outside the manufacturer's specifications (as set out in the manual supplied with each unit), they can overheat and possibly be a heat or fire hazard.

Consumer action:
Consumers should return the product to the retail location from where it was purchased, for a refund or replacement, even if they believe it was properly installed. For further information call Pioneer directly on 1800 988 268.

yes it is true, they announced it on the radio as well. just fyi that info you've posted is taken from http://www.recalls.gov.au . Click "recalls: last 30 days" then scroll down and on 11-Jul-2003 you'll see the link for pioneer.
