I've spent a bit of time recently in overseas car audio stores (checking out Audison & Hertz offcourse), and it is now official that Rainbow has stopped production and is no longer!! Obviously US$7,500 splits aren't good enuf. j/k
Might have to grab a set before i leave

Interesting, I know of the new Australian distributor for Rainbow, and it was about to be launched here in Aus. Strange! Pity really.

Phil, you have an email.

It would be a pitty if the elite in car audio (aparently, nerver herd them) were to go under. Takes a step back for the 'depth' of car audio, however I am interested in knowing that R.M. Audio seems to be in everyone else's business. Phil do you mind elaberating on the evidence that you have at hand as to whether or not this is true??

I'm with Da'Flea, I seriously doubt this as Rainbow are quite large in the aftermarket car and home theatre sound industry.

I actually bought a magazine in Poland which has a write up about the European championships (or similar), and it is written that Rainbow has finished. Not only that, but EVERY major brand was represented at the show apart from Rainbow. I've approached about 3 stores that have told me the same.
I'm in Oxford going to London in 2 days, so i'll get some more info happening soon.
Either the people i've been speaking to are idiots and the magazines i've been reading are wrong, or Rainbow is no more.
If anyone has any better more factual information first hand, then please tell me otherwise.
Stayed tuned for more soon.

Background: In the early days of Rainbow, they asked a company (named SEAS) to produce a high quality speaker. Now that Rainbow has gone bankrupt (as is written in a European magazine & a European SQ judge told me), SEAS has released their own "high quality" brand of speakers. It is my belief that if Rainbow is to reproduce/distribute a line of speakers, it will be developed by another 'foreign' company.
Good or bad, i suppose we'll find out!

I'm with you guys - Rainbow makes speakers for ARC Audio and supplies oem gear to some car manufactures like Fiat and VW.
And I thought that Rainbow has their own factory in Germany and that they build the speakers themselves?
Mmmm conspiracy theories...

This is Rainbow Audio Company from Bad Rappenau Germany. It is very funny to see what kind of rumors are going on...
I can tell everybody that Rainbow is still alive and producing high quality speakers. We have our own production of speakers, crossovers and cables. I invite everybody to visit the factory in the Bad Rappenau area. Rainbow never did and will never let produce speakers from other companies as they do not have the knowledge and experience in developing and producing high quality speakers. You may check our website
http://www.rainbow-audio.de and you will see that we are doing business.
If anybody has still any doubts you may call me at Rainbow Audio company +49-7066-900612 and talk to me directly. I am in charge of export sales for nearly 30 countries.
Regarding the funny Poland story I can comment that we changed distributor for our products, but this was a bad decision. The current distributor did nothing. We are in progress of switching back to the old distributor and you will see Rainbow back in Polish market soon.
I do ask you to spread out this e-Mail to all other Car Audio forums so that the rumors will have an end...
Thank you very much.
Regards from Bad Rappenau, Germany

Hmmm....interesting.
I have no vested interest in Rainbow what so ever, other than seeing what is active or not in the car audio industry. This is everything i have heard, and was not disagreed with in England (London) either.
As for it being published in a magazine (Auto Hi-Fi & Tuning NR 3[06]), perhaps you should have a word to the publishers/editors about their 'rumours'.
Just out of curiousity, why wasn't Rainbow represented at the 2003 European mobile electronics show? Supposedly there were 180 stalls representing 350 brands, bar Rainbow.
Either way, good luck & welcome as a new member!

Thank you Dom.
We did not have a booth at the Car & Sound 2003 show in Sinsheim Germany, because at this time we had some internal shareholder problems. It took until June 2003 to solve those problems. Now we are fully back in business...
Greetings to "Down under" from Germany...

The only Rainbows that are similar to Seas are the top of the range Reference splits which are hand built by Rainbow. Only similarity is the colour of the cone and way the dustcap looks.

so does this mean Rainbow are still going to be released in Aus sometime soon? Who was meant to be distributing them Marc?

To my knowledge, the distributor for Aus is finalising things to begin distibution at a later stage this year.
Looking forward to it
